New Talosians?

As somebody else pointed out before, these nuTalosians kind of resemble Vians because of the shape of the cranium.

It's the shape of the cranium, imo. On the originals, the widest part of the skull is about level with their eyes. On the new design, the widest part is up near the top of the skull, well above the normal top of a human head. It makes them look less like humanoids with giant brains and more like they're wearing fleshy beefeater hats.

or do the Talosians WANT you to think that?

I’m pretty sure that what we see of the Talosians was the real deal. Because if they wanted to have outsiders view an illusion of them, I’m sure they would have made themselves look far more imposing and powerful than what we saw.

I was hoping they would do something to subtly walk back Pike's comment that he agreed with Vina's resons for staying. They had just said they'd rather die than live in captivity. Apparently being slightly disfigured is even worse than death. She seemed to be able to get around without a wheelchair and take care of her basic needs. Many people more disabled than that live happy lives. In my head cannon her disfigurement causes severe pain and limited mobility, although it's not shown in the episode.
In The Cage, when we see Vina in her true form, she does seem to move more slowly and be in physical discomfort.

And of course this is likely to be another illusion, one perfectly scaled to create the desired response in Pike.

How badly damaged Vina really was remains somewhat unknown, but DSC might now have us think she was doing better than "The Cage" originally suggested, not worse. Even DSC can't completely rule out the possibility that there never was a Vina, though: every time she appears, this motivates Pike to obey the wishes of the Talosians, and she might be created out of whole cloth for that very purpose.

But, what they consider imposing is a different matter.

The Keeper thought it would intimidate and scare Pike into stopping choking him. But Pike knew it was just an illusion. That’s why it didn’t work.

I think the more jarring aspect of the Talos stuff was the shift to really dark colors for everything associated with them.

MOAAAARRRR BLUUUUUEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

I like this one I think. Not as brain-exposed as the last two, not as Vian as the original, and still with some forehead ridges and different skin/eye color to suggest alien — not lifelike, but meh.

(The scowl works if it the actor scowling, not it built into the makeup....will Linus ever look happy?)

If he were played by a little old lady, it’d be near perfect.

I think the Keeper considered that huge gorilla alien to be pretty imposing when he turned into it when Pike was choking him.
Imagine his suprise if Pike looked suddenly different and his adoring eyes watered and he shouted in a choked breath "I love you lamprey monkey! I alway have." you take your risks mind reading in a hurry.

This episode showed us Talosians that were not hostile and in fact were quite helpful yet here are Starfleet saying that contact with Talos IV invites the death penalty!!! The Talosians as seen in The Menagerie were scary, manipulative and able to warp human minds, not these poor substitutes!
