New Super Mario Bros. Wii

How different is this supposed to be compared to the DS version of New Super Mario Brothers? Is it basically the same game?
All the levels are new, and from what I've read the game is one of the hardest Mario games ever made.

Which is to say it will still be easy as pie. :lol:

What's a hard Mario game, one where you end up with 99 free men at the end of the game as opposed to the middle?

Don't get me wrong, I love Mario games, I actually own NewSMB for my DS.

It took me six months to get the final star in Mario 64. :(
 
I actually read that the Princess isn't playable because they couldn't get the flutter of her skirt to render properly or something like that.

And Big Rigs is the best game ever made.

I think that Kelthaz thinks the reason they gave (http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/7.150458 for those who haven't read it) is a just a lame excuse they made up for not having her playable.

Do you really play Mario games for the story though...?

No I don't. But it's becoming cliche. They are talented people, making creative levels, new power ups, and new ways of playing, but keep rehashing the same plot device again and again.

Actually I remember reading in an interview a few months ago NSMBW was going to have a more complex plot, but Miyamoto said it was too complex, and that Peach likes cake so Boswer Jr should trick her with a cake and kidnap her.

I'm fine with the plot, I don't play the Mario platformers for their storylines.
 
Also their was a recently release Iwata asks interview about New Super Mario Bros Wii and what they meant about Peach's skirt being the reason she's not playable was that it would allow her to float like in Mario Bros 2, and they wanted all the characters to have the same abilities.
 
I beat the final castle today. I love the final boss battle, easily one of the most epic boss battles ever.

I'm now working on collecting all of the star coins so I can
play all of the levels in world 9
. So far I've gotten all the star coins in world 1.

Same here. Working on world 2 now.
 
I finally got around to playing it. So far, I like. It's a lot more of what I was expecting from the DS version. The new power ups are more useful, the boss fights have more variety, and the levels are more imaginative.

The multiplayer is a good addition to the game, but I'm beginning to think that it's easier solo.
 
^Oh it definitely is, Multiplayer is mental and manic, the fact you can bump in to each other just makes it so easy to grief other players. Fun though.
 
Anyone else miss the giant mushroom power up from the DS game? It was my favorite new power up from the DS game and I'm very disappointed that it hasn't returned in this game.
 
I picked this game up. It's pretty fun. I was trying to pick up the Star Coins as I went along, but that is getting a bit frustrating. So I think I'm just going to play it through to the end and go back later.

I played a few stages on demo consoles and I loved it, especialy the ice flower. Definitly one of the few reasons I'd even consider getting a Wii.
 
I hated the ice flower at first, but I warmed up to it eventually. haha ;)

World 8 pretty much ate up all of my lives. Don't remember the side scrollers being this hard. Or maybe I'm just not as good as I used to be.
 
The last castle was disappointingly easy until the Bowser fight.

I skipped worlds four, five, and seven entirely. The warp cannons don't seem to be as well hidden in this one. I found half of them totally on accident.
