New Super Mario Bros. Wii

I've just seen the reviews at Gamespot and Gametrailers, and I have to admit it looks pretty fun. I'm a fan of classic 2D Mario games, but I thought this was going to concentrate too much on the multiplayer aspect, but apparantly the one player game is on par with the older games. It looks like a combination of Bros. 1, Bros. 3 and World. Might have to check this out and rediscover my inner child.

I can't wait for tomorrow, New Super Mario Brothers Wii is easily my most anticipated game of the holiday season.

The videos look great, and I love that we're finally getting a console 2D Mario game after all these years. Between this game and the two Galaxy games the Wii is going to go down as having the best line up of Mario games on any Nintendo system.

How different is this supposed to be compared to the DS version of New Super Mario Brothers? Is it basically the same game?

My understanding is that it's basically a sequel based on the same engine. New levels, new power ups, and new bosses.

Cooperative multiplayer seems to be the big difference.

^ I've read a few people say the game is hard, but I seriously doubt that. I'm positive that those who say the game is hard are those who have never played a 2D platformer before in their entire lives.

Anyway, the game looks pretty fun. I've read the single player mode is dull, but the game really livens up in multiplayer mode. Which makes sense as the game is basically a platforming Mario Party. I think the game would get boring way too fast to justify a $70 price tag, but if you've got the money and some good friends to play it with you'll definitely enjoy it.

^That's pretty much the opposite of what I've heard. The game is better in single player from reviews I've seen.

All the levels are new, and from what I've read the game is one of the hardest Mario games ever made.

Which is to say it will still be easy as pie.

What's a hard Mario game, one where you end up with 99 free men at the end of the game as opposed to the middle?

Don't get me wrong, I love Mario games, I actually own NewSMB for my DS.

My wife and I are picking uthis up tonight and going to go over to my parents (the 50 year olds with the only wii in the family) and have a great mario time!

I picked this one up this week (Not sure why as I don't have much gaming time and what little I do is devoted to CODMW2 right now) and played just the first level. And it really took me back to the old NES days (which is good and bad). I enjoyed it a lot but I still suck at Mario.

I may pick it up someday, but I'm in no hurry to. I bought a pile of games already for my Wii I should finish before I continue to get more.

Had a game session with some friends over last 24 hours ;) and one of games we played was Mario Bros Wii and its hetic, hard at times, but a lot of fun. The amount of times I've accidently been knocked off to my death by a friend or jumped off there head can get annyoing but all in all very very fun to play. Only 3 of us and thats hetic sometiems, god knows what 4 player is like.

got to mid castle in world 4 so far.

I plan to buy Super Mario wii soon. I've always been a Mario fan and wondered how a co-op Super Mario game would play. I've been reading reading reviews and the comments, and glad that many enjoyed it.

Side note
I wished they would have made Princess Peach playable. I know the creators want to keep the old 'save the princess' storyline; and that some guys don't want to play female characters and get stuck playing her. When I was a kid, I didn't like playing girl characters either, but end up playing her most of the time because her ability to hover makes the game easier. (As I grew up, I don't care if my character is male or female.)

I want her playable because
- Super Mario 2 was originally Doki Doki Panic, with its characters changed to the Mario cast. So it's a dark horse of the series. Having Peach would have made SMB2 fit in more with the series.
- Every player/character will be unique. Two of the players won't be generic Toad guys.
- So Nintendo will use a different storyline than 'save the princess'. She's been captured for what seems to be the 100th time.

I actually read that the Princess isn't playable because they couldn't get the flutter of her skirt to render properly or something like that.
