That's a problem with all phasers, though. Tellarites definitely couldn't hold a dustbuster or cobra.
It seems to have something but nothing overt. There must be some way to change from stun to kill, and vaporize.Does it lack those, though? It's got a couple spots that might be buttons and controls, and the TNG phasers had only two. The shape doesn't prevent any of the tool optiosn.
What if you have to wear the gauntlets of a space suit, same issue. This is why I'm not for having trigger guards and the like on these weapons. If they're the Klingons, Romulans, or some other mono-species government, sure, but not Starfleet. Besides, we can already make guns fairly safe without a trigger guard thanks to redundant safeties. It's also no good for any Federation species whose hands are not like a human's hand. What about the fat Tellarite hands? How would they hold this?
I'm pro trigger guard, regardless if it's a energy blaster or FireArm.What if you have to wear the gauntlets of a space suit, same issue. I like to imagine the old phasers know when a finger is touching them, not just how hard the trigger is being pressed. Maybe they're partially psychic and can measure intent. Universal translators as per TOS are supposed to work through mental scan when encountering unknown languages, so why not phasers.
It's interesting how the First Contact Type 3's have trigger guards, but the EVA version lacks it, has a forward pistol grip, and magnetic hold down things which makes perfect sense for use with space suits. Do we ever see the Type 2 used in EVA?I'm pro trigger guard, regardless if it's a energy blaster or FireArm.
We need Trigger Guard, Inertial Trigger Safety (Trigger Dingus for some folks), Grip Safety, Manual Safety, & Drop Safety.
All those should be included in every design as basic requirements.

I somehow missed that the new Starfleet phasers, first seen in 2385 flashbacks, have ditched the "dustbuster" Gene Roddenberry don't-make-it-look-like-a-gun mandate.

La Rosa? You mean La Sirena? Are these the same phasers that Rios had on La Rosa?
