New ST to be pitched to CBS set in post STNG era/timeline

Fear not! The only way Star Trek would have (literally) gay characters is if Showtime picked it up, and then the stupid/for kids aspect wouldn't be a problem. It would be a more grownup version of Star Trek than we're used to, but that doesn't bother me one little bit!

If Star Trek was on the CW, it would skew younger and be less grownup than we're used to. But the gay characters would be figurative (slashy antics, preferably with a pair of hot brothers) and slash is not foreign to Star Trek, is it?

There might be gay background characters but the focus would definitely be on the lead female character, who as a spunky young Starfleet ensign with a tragic past must choose between two hot brothers, one of whom is a Vulcan and the other is a Romulan, who hate each other but we know what they're really thinking because the fanfics spell it out in gory detail.

Also, they are vampires.

You'd be surprised. Moving into a new environment has a way of accelerating genetic change. Newly separated populations can diverge fairly quickly. A mere two millennia might be pushing it a bit, but it's not completely beyond the realm of possibility, given that they are aliens and might've been affected by cosmic radiation or maybe done some deliberate genetic engineering, or at least selective breeding, to adapt to Romulus. Heck, maybe a lot of the proto-Romulans were the last members of a Vulcan racial group that had heavier foreheads, perhaps some ethnic population that had been almost wiped out in the endless wars and decided to leave and make a fresh start elsewhere. So in that case their genetic drift from other Vulcan racial groups would've already taken place before the migration to Romulus.

Well, they weren't as bad as the TNG-era Romulan costumes, but yeah, they weren't great. I guess the idea was to take advantage of modern makeup technology and higher budgets to make the Romulans more visually distinct from the Vulcans (although since Vulcans were rarely used on TNG, that would a bit arbitrary). But the 2009 movie came up with a more interesting way to differentiate Romulans from Vulcans, with the shaven heads and tattoos.

So maybe I didn't think through my Star Trek/Vampire Diaries mashup very thoroughly before posting. It was more of a stream of consciousness/drunkl posting thing. Here are a couple of ideas to make sense of the chaos:

1. The brothers are half-brothers, with a Vulcan mom/dad and one has a Romulan mom/dad.

2. The brothers are full brothers, but one was raised by the "opposite culture" - the brothers are Vulcans and one was raised Romulan, or vice versa.

I was just kidding about them being vampires. We all know that Star Trek has no vampires except for the Borg.

It seems that the Vulcan telepathy that might have developed during their war would have made them the natural outcasts and pascifists unhappy with their brothers and therefore have more of a reason to leave or force those not mutated or affected by the unexpected consequences and genetic chasnes of their wars out.

There will also be a recurring subplot about the ship being haunted. Despite crewmembers occasionally disappearing or showing up brutally mutilated, no one on the ship has the sense to scream "I'm gettin' outta here!"

Hated TNG Romulan uniforms and their grey aesthetic and uniform haircuts and frozen brow-ridges. I prefer the red-hot, lusty, passionate, individualized Romulans of TOS.
