I think that she was actually far too polite and soft on him. She kept trying to be nice and he kept making it worse.

When you don’t know the person, you should be erring on the side of caution until you do. Unless you’re immediately headed off to a situation that could get everyone killed. It was pretty clear right from the first question that Larkin had issues.

I stand by my thoughts that Captain Battle Angel was in over her head, and not a very good CO. I also wonder where the second-in-command was in all this? Luckily this was entertaining, or else it would be very easy to slice it to bits.

Like I said, it's interesting how the office politics have so sharply divided people on this one. From my perspective she approached the whole thing from a team-building and kind of kindergarten way. "Let's all contribute to this awesome project." Then she basically had to deal with Edward's increasingly horrifying experiment that she shut down hard. Then Edward went behind her back and badmouthed her to Starfleet and continued to disrespect her. Edward proceeded to disobey orders and made his mad science experiment anyway and refused to evacuate.

But everyone's perspective being believable is why I think this was a great episode.

This is all on Larkin. Her handling of him in a general briefing with other officers is where I have my issue.

Though I wonder what Starfleet thinks after getting anonymous messages that she was dumb? They may end up siding with Larkin after she lost a starship and forced a civilization to move.

Calling out Larkin in front of everyone makes me think she is. Her concerns were real, but the conversation ditching his project and reassigning him to a nothing position in front of everybody was pretty bad.
Larkin already shat the bed there with how he replied to her moral question of "Are Tribbles intelligent?..." as well as lying about feeding one to a fellow crewmate (the guy quickly shook his head - "no, that didn't happen...") - so she wasn't doing anything worse that Edward hadn't done to himself in a meeting of these Dept. Heads - who were well acquainted with Edward's various tendencies. She didn't berate or reprimand him in front of the entire crew.

Not certain what should have happened after the hearing. A demotion, a transfer to a starbase job, or court-martial?

Desk job. There were probably a lot of people at Starfleet who were interested in Larkin's project. They don't want to be embarrassed by having logs pulled as evidence during a court martial.

I’ll bet that most of us have worked with a few people like Edward IRL, I know that I have.

Anyway, this is my favorite Short Trek so far, eclipsing even the Mudd episode. They managed to combine Trek with The Office and Archer, and it was great.

Starfleet had no problems giving Lorca another command after his ship was destroyed, with all hands on deck, so this incident is child’s play compared to that.

(Netflix needs to hurry the fuck up and actually put the new Short Treks online! Waiting until the next season of Discovery airs like last time is ridiculous!)
