Well, that one never made an ounce of sense. Spock claims that the risk stems from the chance that the transporter might fall short of pinpoint accuracy and put Kirk inside a wall. But if the transporter is that bad, why does Kirk not materialize inside a wall in any other episode?

Fair enough. It didn't bother me so much here, but it did bother me immensely with Cornwell in "Such Sweet Sorrow, Part 2".
Not even the lack of intra-ship beaming, but why didn't she just get into the turbolift with Pike? She wasn't needed in there except for the dramatic effect.
Oh that's an easy one, transporters are farsighted. Probably designed that way to maximize distance accuracy, because why would you ever need to beam such short distances?
Flamsteed sounds like a word you would find in a bad Science Fiction entertainment or a Frink centered Simpsons episode.
Gotta say, other than the sets/production values, this could have been a fan film.

Yeah, I kept waiting for her to stop and switch to something more secure. But nope, she just kept going up.
Utterly ridiculous, just like all the empty space, but as others have said, that wasn't what the episode was about, it was about Spock's first few minutes on the Enterprise and meeting Number One. And on that point, it succeeded nicely.
Though it would be nice if they hired some sort of consultant who would tell them not to do stupid stuff like that. A little reminiscent of the first Short Trek, when Tilly magically beamed super-smart plot-device queen lady all the way back to her planet. (Which, yes, can be explained away with a few assumptions, but it'd be nice if they had someone telling them not to do dumb stuff in the first place.)
Other than sets/production values, much better acting and a nice script from a Pulitzer winning writer, maybe. But no.
I've read some comments that Anson Mount was really, really unhappy with his experience on the series. Particularly how long it took them to shoot the individual episodes compared to other projects with a similar number of episodes he's been involved in.
Without Mount, they can't do Discoprise.
Never heard he was really, really unhappy with his experience on the series. Though I have heard he didn't wish to commit to a full series.
If he's really just unhappy with his experience due to what has to be called...for lack of a better way to describe it...bad showrunning, finding the right person to take the reins should allay his fears.
Anson Mount and his wife first got married in early 2018. Live in Brooklyn. All is new since his last series ended. He has said there would have to be real discussions about the changes it would create in his life.
Another thing that is implied but unspoken -they did not plan for any of this to be so popular. There is no surprise they to not want to rush into it. The fan perception that a series about Pike as Captain of the Enterprise writes itself is wrong. If they do rush and screw it up everyone will be pissed.
A lot of the issues and complaints towards Discovery of Canon would still apply. It’s jumping ahead to the far future to avoid all that. Plus a general issue would be another ship based Star Trek show. How is it different from TOS which was basically the same time period?
To be clear I want Pike to get his own show as much as everyone. But they need to take the time to determine what it actually will be. Jumping into quick would be a huge mistake. Reading between the lines of all involved -that is what is going on here. They clearly know how much fans want it. These Short Treks were temporary solution until they can resolve all the creative and scheduling issues to create something longer term.

Yet STII: TWoK remains one of the most beloved and looked to as in "Yes, THIS is Star Trek..." entries in all of the Star Trek franchise...
It's also grimdark, pew-pew, filled with explosions, gory, violent, dimly-lit and action-packed. And it's regarded as one of the most universally beloved Trek products ever.
And then people bitch and moan endlessly when these traits show up in other iterations of Star Trek.....? It's not hard to figure out folks.
