New Series Should be Starfleet's bi-annual dance recital!

I like to apologise in advance for my juvenile topic-header, but my issue is with the banal suggestions for a new series. Klingon captains, law investigation series, insert derivative here.

Despite the release of a new movie, any new Star Trek series television release, currently, is dubious at best. I want to enquire whether the values that Star Trek advances are too outdated to carry a television series any longer... I refer to two topics, Sadistro's Misanthope's Guide to Enterprisewhich discusses the merit and validity of the Enterprise series four years on, beyond the gushers and the bashers, and my own previous thread Will any new Star Trek series *have* to be like Battlestar Galactica? In it, I pondered that any future Star Trek series would have to take NuBSG's obvious re-valuation of story values when it comes to making a meritable Space Opera.

Obviously, Star Trek advances a very humanist view point: we are not obsessive, we are self-determined, cooperation above war, rationalisation above chaos, etc, etc. But, I really believe, humanism makes for very weak story, and Battlestar's, Firefly's and even Farscape's use of nihilism and pessimism would make advancing those values very difficult in the future. Yes, a film maybe able to carry that, but for people to continue believing weekly, I think it may be far too large a task to advance Star Trek's values in the post-modern age.

I believe there is only two options.

Either de-construct Star Trek (taking apart those former values and re-constructing them to mean something in our current age), perhaps like Deep Space Nine touched for seven seasons, or merely maintain a film series, and maintain the franchise as action/adventure only.

I expect very much so to get criticism for this choice of topic: for offending people's proud cocktail of Law and Order and Star Trek, or offending people's rabid humanism, or merely offending their love of Star Trek: Gene Roddenberry's Legacy.

I even have an idea in my mind, that this thread will be closed, it could be considered off-topic: but this is the future of Star Trek, and i really believe that the values of rationality, science and human self-determination are tired and outdated, we should at least consider the possibility of de-construction or entertain a Clone Wars route.

A high brow direction or a low brow direction: both equally valid.

Thank you for reading my post. Optimally, i'd like to elevate the discussion from Klingon Captains or Moonlighting in Starfleet; or at least have contradictory viewpoints
