New observations after home viewing...

EASTER EGGS IN THE NARADA LANDING BAY!

Take a look just as Spock takes off in the squid ship and flies through the bay.

There is an original series Romulan Warbird on one of the landing platforms AND three Vulcan ships from First Contact (the tripod kind). There are others, but I can't zoom in and see them. I have yet to figure out all the frakking options on my BluRay player.

When I've watched it on the tv one thing I notices is it is not loud enough. I kept turning the volume up because I wanted that booming effect in the opening.
I had the same thought, but I blame the fact that I don't have surround sound.

There are some pictures here and here which may be of interest.

This has probably been discussed ad-infinitum and I have missed it, but one thing I noticed in my first home viewing was the scene where the shuttle containing Kirk & McCoy first approaches the new Enterprise. The shuttle is clearly coming in low, but the next scene shows them soaring OVER the saucer. I thought maybe these were other shuttles, but the camera follows these 2 shuttles into the hangar bay, so it must be them. All I can figure is some hotshot pilot pulled a steep climb just before going under the saucer??

I don't know if this is on anyone else's copy, but on the very first few seconds when we see Quinto's Spock (when he's having the one on one with his mother,) there appears to be a quick red streak that comes up on the bottom right hand corner when he walks up to his mother.

Definitely not a red spectrum lens flare...

I absolutely hate the interior of these starships. Pipes? Steam? Concrete stairs? Plastic strip doors? Unforgiveable to have such low tech innards of a starship. This was my first viewing of the movie and these scenes were just so awkward as to be take you out of the reality of the film bad.

I noticed the Vulcan First Contact ship, where is the Warbird in relation to them?

Oddly enough, i really love those plastic strips. I think they give the ship a sense of reality.

That's what makes horse racing!

love love love this movie :techman:
one thing I like is when Jimmy took the car out, and he passes Johnny (brother? cousin?) on the road

the first few times I saw it I had assumed that it was one of his friends from school that he was showing off to, but in light of the deleted scenes it makes more sense
really stickin' it to the crazy uncle :D

I'm assuming the clear plastic curtain/partition things . . . most noticable when Robau is on the shuttle
you often see them in industrial loading docks

The scene where Robau enters the shuttle bay he passes through plastic strips similar to what you find in dairy freezers and places where there are two atmospheres that need separated.

Personally, I love them, because it just seems so practical. Not everything in the future has to be some high tech force field solution. Plus, I say this as a former meat cutter who worked around those for some time. They work quite well in keeping warm air out of the cutting area. They also work well to keep dust and debris out of areas that need to stay clean.

^ THIS. Yes, they are practical and i agree, not everything has to be a high tech force field. I think they are a GREAT little touch.

I was never really concerned about the plot holes. Although the time travel scenario is still muddy to me. In some ways they want us to think that Spock Prime is coming back to the past of the same universe that he was originally from yet it created an parallel universe that co-exists with the original time line...but that means then he isn't from the future of this alternate time line...or in other words he isn't from their future?

He was from their future as I understood it, and he and Nero were accidentally hauled back into time.... and everything was all the same as per Star Trek Enterprise series through to Voyager, but as soon as Nero headed back into time, that altered the future. As soon as Nero toasted the Kelvin and Kirk's father was killed.... Everything went tits upside down.

The way I always saw it was that Spock knew full well his reality was gone and that he was partly to blame for the situation by simply being there and creating the black hole that also brought back Nero. Not only that but his home world was gone too. He knew Nero needed to be stopped, but he couldn't do it. He knew the only thing that could stand a chance was the friendship between himself and Kirk, and if anything he could save from his own reality, he'd want that to be the one thing..... their friendship, which was in my view, the heart of the movie's story, more then just the action and typical Kirk Saves Earth Again situation. He wanted to make sure the young Kirk and young Spock hit it off..... er... as friends of course.

Just finished my second viewing. First i watched it alone, second time i watched with my almost 16 year old daughter who has, until this day, refused to EVER watch ANY Star Trek with me.

She loved it. She is now expressing interest in watching TOS and on up. JJ worked magic where i couldn't!

Yay!! My 15 year old daughter went to see it with me in the theater after expressing that Star Trek was "embarrassing" and not watching it with us (despite having seen all of VOY when younger.) After she saw STXI her exact words were "I want to start watching Star Trek with you again". She LOVED it.. and she has been watching it with us most nights since. The movie dvd.. TOS.. ENT. That's what we are currently watching and she abandons MSN chat with her friends and watches them with us.

Last night she ignored a call and then turned off her phone so she wouldn't be interrupted watching The Tholian Web.

My daughter is 3 and I sure hope I have the same experience as you did some day. :)

We do, and we had it cranked! Strangely enough, the cats liked it. Both of them came in and watched it with us.

Oh, yeah; it is good to listen to it while playing on iPod. You hear sound effects and notice more audio things, I think.

A very crucial deleted scene IMO.
Also, the Abrams Shaky-Cam (tm) didn't distrct me as much as on the big screen.;)

My theory was that as soon as Nero arrived, the universe started going crazy. Universes started to merge. One universe had the badge, the other didn't. The look of the new universe wasn't fully formed until the Kelvin was destroyed, and the Space Storm dissolved.
My theory is that it was an error during the filmmaking process.
