New observations after home viewing...

First, the plot holes are more apparent.
Second, the lens flares are more in-my-face.
Third, Chris Pine is growing on me as Kirk.
Fourth, I am SO loving Simon Pegg.
Fifth, the FX are infinitely clearer than in the cinema.
Sixth, not enough E-pron.

Bottom line, it's a total non-fail. I love this flick. The most fun since STIV.:techman:

Now to watch the deleted scenes.

Comments?

Update: The deleted scenes are a must-see IMO. I see no reason, other than pacing, that they should have been removed.
*crosses fingers for an extended version*

I was never really concerned about the plot holes. Although the time travel scenario is still muddy to me. In some ways they want us to think that Spock Prime is coming back to the past of the same universe that he was originally from yet it created an parallel universe that co-exists with the original time line...but that means then he isn't from the future of this alternate time line...or in other words he isn't from their future?

I don't mean to open this can of worms again. But it seems they want it both ways and I have a difficult time resolving it.

I am personally okay with this thinking that this new time line is erasing the old time line even if that was not the intent . It makes better sense looking at it that way and it won't stop me from enjoying all my old DVDs.

The lens flares bother me less on TV as do the strange camera angles and shaky camera.

But what bothers me more is the scene where Kirk and Scotty are trying to evade security. It is so obvious that it is a brewery that it does momentarily take me out of the picture.

Other than that I really love this movie and the DVD.

Yeah, most of the deleted scenes are really great, although I agree with their exclusion.

The only scenes that didn't do anything for me were the Klingon scenes. I'm not sure I like the reimagined Klingon's look, and Nero escaping by killing three guards and his cheesy line "the wait is over". Really, Nero wasn't a compelling villian, so extra scenes with him only drove that home more.

I loved the Birth of Spock though, that was my favorite of the deleted stuff.

Good point.

I agree with much of these. One more thing to add. I saw this in the original but it is still amazing how Urban channelled De Kelly. He seems like the really McCoy.

Stupid Amazon, using Fedex and claiming they're using the Postal Service...

Grrrr...

It was caused by the same thing that, in the original TOS timeline, caused Kirk's badge to appear and disappear from his uniform shirt in THE ENEMY WITHIN.

That Q...

Even back in the 23rd century, already finding ways to have fun at Starfleet's expense...

My theory was that as soon as Nero arrived, the universe started going crazy. Universes started to merge. One universe had the badge, the other didn't. The look of the new universe wasn't fully formed until the Kelvin was destroyed, and the Space Storm dissolved.

Just finished my second viewing. First i watched it alone, second time i watched with my almost 16 year old daughter who has, until this day, refused to EVER watch ANY Star Trek with me.

She loved it. She is now expressing interest in watching TOS and on up. JJ worked magic where i couldn't!

And like you Lil Bro Chris, I still love this movie...even MORE now. Its gorgeous! The cast did a magnificent job and there was some major channeling going on there. And like most previous Star Trek films, plot holes and all, its a winner by me!

Don't know if this was ever discussed, but when Kirk and Sulu land on the platform of the drill, Kirk takes off his helmet, sort of tosses it aside and starts fighting with a Rommie. Shortly after he is seen swinging the helmet at the Rommies. Anyone else notice that?

Haven't seen most of the extras yet...didn't have time. I will be doing that tomorrow.

I still cry when George Kirk dies ( KUDOS to Chris Hemsworth. He ROCKS!)

Robau is even greater than his thread. He's smaller in statue but that man commands! When he is walking through the corridors on the way to the shuttle he exudes confidence.

IM NOT WORTHY! IM NOT WORTHY!

Have i mentioned that i love this movie and i feel younger everytime i see it? At this rate i'll be in utero by next week.

*EDIT* The only unfortunate thing is now i am in love even more with chris pine. *sigh* Give this older woman a chance Chris...... puleeze!

Yay!! My 15 year old daughter went to see it with me in the theater after expressing that Star Trek was "embarrassing" and not watching it with us (despite having seen all of VOY when younger.) After she saw STXI her exact words were "I want to start watching Star Trek with you again". She LOVED it.. and she has been watching it with us most nights since. The movie dvd.. TOS.. ENT. That's what we are currently watching and she abandons MSN chat with her friends and watches them with us.

Last night she ignored a call and then turned off her phone so she wouldn't be interrupted watching The Tholian Web.

This movie is awesome!!! See how it trekkifies the unbelievers..

Oh and I still cry when George Kirk dies too.. so much impact (and not just the Kelvin hitting the Narada, LOL)

I saw the movie mostly in IMAX, so this was different. I've seen it 21 times, so by now it's hard to see plot holes anymore (not that I ever saw many); but if anything, it seemed to run more seamlessly than on the big screen. Not sure why that is, except that in IMAX, you had to move your head around to see everything; and on a 55" TV, you see everything at once. It was a thoroughly pleasant experience, though. The sound was excellent.

When I've watched it on the tv one thing I notices is it is not loud enough. I kept turning the volume up because I wanted that booming effect in the opening.
