Because it's more consistent with all the rest of the characters in the font?
I'm not quite sure how changing the logo (for lack of a better description) is going to appeal too or even bring in, New Fan's, when these New Fan's don't know about and/or probably don't even give a damn in the first place.
It's really getting to a point where it's pretty obvious that They Are Changing Things Just Because They Can.
Which usually doesn't bode well for a desired final outcome.
I can understand Their reasoning, but with everything We have heard and seen so far, it just seems to me that it's quite possible that it is going to backfire on Them and They are going to Lose More Than They Gain.

So - who has been raped by this then?
1) They are not changing the logo. If anything, they are going back to the original logo.
2) Changing stuff and hoping new fans would be interested is what made Christopher Nolan a very rich man.
That works. Designers like and get paid to design, not trace - something which seems to confuse at least a few of the fanboi artists who pretty much do just that.
Doesn't bode one way or the other, really - depends on the artists. So far, everything we've seen from the new movie looks at least okay and most of it is pretty damn good.
A good point, which is being ignored for the most part - what we have here is a variation on some typography which belongs to TOS and up until now pretty much entirely to TOS. It's every version of Trek since 1970 that's being off-loaded, not TOS.
I think so, yes. I mean, I love the original NCC-1701! I really do! (Hence my screen name.) But it's not what makes the series so appealing to me. It's the wonderful storytelling!

Seriously, the story-telling, the acting, the ship, even those cheap-looking planet sets (which, even if not intended, made it look like you were watching stage drama) to me were a synthesis that was greater than the parts, and made the show unique and loved by many.
If that was true, it certainly didn't prevent the editors from using both characters in the title sequence simultaneously.

The sharp-cornered "E" is more consistent with all of the rest of the characters in the font than the round-cornered version. Period, full stop.
The rounded "E" was generally used only in italics, and only in the title logo itself. You may find some variant of it used somewhere other than that - I'm not sure that they weren't pulling the whole font design out of their butts as they went - but if so it was very, very uncommon and most likely accidental.
...and your bringing your professional weight to bear on my personal preference for one variation of a typeface character over another?
