New iPhone Rumored to change connection configuration

Yes, there is great advantage to the new connector. It will allow faster data transfer but that's not the important part. The port itself will be smaller, when you're talking about the real estate of something like a phone, size does matter most.
They're also moving the headphone jack to the bottom where it belongs.

Well, it's a good thing then. But I wonder why they didn't do this in the last version (4 and 4S). It doesn't look like new technology was leveraged, just a revised design.

I would applaud Apple if they do provide an adapter so that it can work with older accessories.

It probably wasn't ready for the 4 and to change it for just a relative simple upgrade with the 4s makes little sense when you can do it theoretically with a new design of the iPhone 5.

Apple will supply an adapter, you will just have to pay for it.

I also don't see the advantage of a bottom headphone jack. Can anyone explain that to me?
When you put your phone in your pocket the phone naturally goes in upside down because otherwise you'd have to turn it around when you put it in and pull it out. Also when you're holding it in front of you, having the wire coming out the bottom isn't going to get in the way as easily as it would on top.

Ah, guess I've never listened to my headphones while it was in my pocket (not that it isn't perfectly logical). I often have it propped up such as resting on a treadmill at the gym or at work where it's convenient to have the unit rightside up resting on its flat edge while plugged into the top.

I suppose if it was on the bottom of one of the sides might be best of both worlds. Is that where they are on other phones or on the "bottom bottom"?
