New image and new trailer (almost)

It's so weird and different, I had to love it. I mean, change is what Doctor Who is all about. Change is different, and anything new is good. I love seeing Who from different angles, and I can't wait to get a taste of Moffat-Who versus RTD-Who. I think it will be a nice fresh breath of air... :techman:

It will be interesting to see how the Doctor's relationship with Amy Pond develops. If it becomes romantic, and I'm in no way opposed to that happening, then it runs the risk of too closely resembling the Doctor-Rose relationship. Of course, if it remains purely platonic, then it runs the risk of too closely resembling the Doctor-Donna relationship. I'm sure that Moffat will make it unique and interesting.

Then there's River Song. How will the Doctor find time to become so intimate with her? Maybe the entire "intimate phase" of their relationship will be conducted off-screen, like the tenth Doctor's dilly-dallying before he met with the Ood at the beginning of "The End of Time."

Well, one virtue of the fact that a different actor is playing the Doctor is that we're watching two different characters develop a relationship - not one character who we've watched through one or two previous relationships developing a second or third.

This "regeneration" premise actually works quite well for TV romance - no Moonlighting problem, eh?

Easter! Does this mean it's the official launch date?

I liked the trailer. Or promo.

Smith has a sort of Pertwee quality. And his voice is way deeper than I expect it to be.

I thought the same thing! I'm not sold on Smith just yet, but I did enjoy the trailer. I liked his voice here; I still cringe his voice in End of Time, though. As long as he doesn't yell to the point where his voice cracks (which is to say, just use your indoor-voice from here on, Smith), I think he'll do just fine.

One thing that I've appreciated about Who (old and new) is the sense of whimsy that each Doctor brought to the role, and that's one thing that the trailer happily conveys. I'll take it. And now I'm imagining what it would be like to have older Doctors (particularly Pertwee) in such a kinetic trailer.

Of course, if it remains purely platonic, then it runs the risk of too closely resembling the Doctor-Donna relationship.
Or all of the companions from the Classic Series (except Susan and Romana)! We can't have that! ;)

Well, Jo and Sarah Jane are also exceptions. There are certainly some subtle, subtle hints at romance with those two companions and their respective Doctors--Jo with Three and Sarah Jane with Four (not her brief time with Three).

Quite frankly, there is something romantic about the Doctor and his female companions/assistants--a dashing mysterious man who whisks women away on far-flung adventures. RTD latched onto that romantic aspect and brought it more to the surface. Looks like Moffat will as well.

The think the Master in TEOT2 sums it up best, "He just loves playing with earth girls". :)

Dude, this season, do us a favour. Concentrate on your studies, don't watch and, frankly, don't post. The whole "I hate nuWho" schtick is getting old.
The whole 'if you don't like it, don't watch it' thing is the shittest argument in the world.

I support Liverpool but at the moment they're performing terribly and fans are divided on the manager on the players. I GUESS I SHOULD STOP BEING A LIVERPOOL FAN.

Depends if you're a whiny Liverpool fan who moans about every single thing the manager and the players do, or a proper fan who supports them through thick and thin and tries to find some element of the team that you enjoy and can root for, even in times of adversity.

and Liverpool performing terribly, what are you 4th? Fans of the top 4 really don't have a clue what its like to support a team that rarely gets success do they?

Maybe. After years and years of not liking them.

I'd certainly hope not. If they want to entirely ignore the dimensions that nuWho has brought to the premise, I suppose they're welcome to spiral off toward diminished audiences and cancellation again. It would be a little sad, though.

As much as I love looking at pretty female companions... I DO think it would be more fun to have a guy in there instead for the Doctor to bicker with. Something along the lines of the House/Wilson relationship. Or another cocky adventurer-type like Captain Jack.

I mean, it's not like guys are going to suddenly STOP watching Doctor Who if there's no cute girl to ogle. lol

Ok, enough mean comments now, people.

mean comments? what mean comments, just looks like a bit of back and forth between two aposing viewpoints, anyway, who above the age of 10 uses the word mean to describe something negative?

I am trying to be compassionate and prevent people from being upset. Something that at one time was considered quite noble, and nothing to be derided. And adults do use the term "mean" on occasion; it doesn't make you a simpleton if you do. Kindly refrain from using it as an excuse to insult someone.

I'd honestly prefer it there were both. Why can't he have two companions at once?

Sally Sparrow and Larry from "Blink" would be an awesome team, I think.

Cancellation after 26 seasons might be deemed OK.

Moff said in DWM that he likes having two companions so they can stand there and say 'how barmy is he?' about the Doctor whilst he's standing around going on about how brilliant clockwork droids are or what-have-you.

interesting point, Moff had Jack and Rose in S1, Mickey and Rose in S2 and Sally and Larry in S3 and then Donna and River in S4....

That would have been a great team, but usually in that setup the male companion is just some loser who tags along on the trip. I was wanting more of a equal kind of partnership.

I mean, a season with just Tennant's Doctor and Captain Jack roaming the universe probably would have been fun as hell. That's the kind of dynamic I've love to see in a future Who.
