I think Tennant just meant that he didn't stick around to watch Smith do any filming. That doesn't mean they didn't meet or take a few pics beforehand.

Tennant is such a nice and friendly guy (not to mention a huge Who fan), that I can't imagine him NOT wanting to meet the new Doc.

I didn't know that. I presumed it was in much the same way as seen in TEOT Confidential, whereby they got Smith to come and stand in the same place immediately after. Though I suppose it needn't have been that way for The Parting of the Ways, as they didn't have the continuity of the Tardis falling down to bear in mind. I may check sometime how similar Rose looks between her last scene with Eccleston and the following Children in Need scene with Tennant.

When they filmed the Christmas Children in Need in 2006 Billie looked like she had her Series 2 haircut already. They could have added extensions.

Yeah Tennant's scenes were months after Eccelston left. That's why we have a weird CGI Tennant that sprouts hair.

Tennant to Smith transition looked much smoother.

When they filmed the Christmas Children in Need in 2006 Billie looked like she had her Series 2 haircut already. They could have added extensions.

That's because Children in Need was filmed later in Season 2, during the production block that contained "Tooth and Claw" and "The Girl in the Fireplace"-- and it was written around then, too. Rose's haircut goes back for "The Christmas Invasion".

Me too. I honestly wasn't sure why they didn't have more of a morph to it. They did the actual transition really quickly, and covered it up with a lot of bloom and glow. I wonder if maybe the plates they shot didn't match as well as they hoped. I noticed that Smith's face was a lot more scrunched up, while Tennant closed his eyes in a more relaxed way. Maybe that kept them from getting a good blend so they needed to cover it up.

Odd, though, since they probably would've had an insta-daily on-set, so they could get Smith to match Tennant's position exactly. Better than Tennant's regeneration, where it was just him in an empty TARDIS with a tennis ball on a stick so he could see how tall Billie Piper would've been if she were actually there and know where to look so the eyelines matched.

Actually leaving Miss Gillian behind for a moment (but just a moment) I have to say that one of the things I find amazing about Smith is how different he looks from one picture to the next. In some he looks very ordinary while in others he has a sort of catwalk model handsomeness to him, then in the next shot he looks like Skeletor! Sometimes he looks rugged and heroic, other times geeky and uncomfortable. Frankly if his performance has half the range that his looks do we could be in for quite a ride!
