New ideas... trying to decide.

I've got a couple of ideas floating around in my head for my next model...

First one is just a straight up Constitution Refit for Blender. I don't think one exists that was built straight up for it.

Another is the TOS Enterprise, done up with the Refit-Similar style nacelles and pylons,

Or a refit of my STXI Enterprise, coming up with a 1701-A type of idea.

Which one should I do first? :)

Edit: Or, alternately, how about a Refit Constitution, with round nacelles?

I would opt for the refit with the round nacells. Actually any of your projects are great to watch as they come together (Ok so I'm a fan of your work...)

May I throw something out there? How about on the refit, you lose the Torpedo Launcher Tracheotomy on the neck?

Hi MadMan1701A,

Have you considered the TMP refit, but accounting for the tweaks people would like (in the Play With the Enterprrise Refit thread)?

I think as you're starting a new project, you're just the man to iron out some of those minor design problems!

Cheers,

S.O.

Wow, that idea was more popular than I thought it would be! I went through the other thread, and came out with these points that I liked, and I added some of my own:

Lose the big rectangles on bottom sensor
Reduce the undercut on the saucer
Torpedo bay in the undercut on the secondary hull
No neck torpedo bay
Slightly bigger than original - I know some think the ST09 ship is too big, but I might make it close...
Definitely having colored spinning engine caps, on cylindrical engines
Glowing domes on saucer
Torpedo tubes on saucer just above sensor, like they would have been on TOS
Pennant on Nacelles
No VIP windows, make that deck more TOS shaped
No Spotlights?

I think that covers it. :) I might also lose the giant arboretum windows, too.

This has to be a different Constitution class that was refit, I think, not long before Enterprise was. Any ideas which ship we could use?

I might have some sketches up soon. :)

id make the it a replacement ship for the USS Defiant NCC-1764 :)

USS Defiant NCC-1764-A

or USS Defiant II NCC-1764

:)

That's not a bad idea at all! I think I might go with it.

Well, I started "sketching" out the Nacelles, and got kind of carried away...

What do you guys think? That skinny line of "Radiator Fins" is meant to tie the design back to the original, on these rounder engines.

Here's an example of the markings I was going to use (this is just a mock up...)

So, is this design worth pursuing, or I am going in totally the wrong direction? :)

Looks good, the nacelle front end caps might need something, but the the rest is "dead nuts" on..."This (to borrow a phrase) is most interesting." (I really like the pennant treatment.)

Oh, that is sweet already. Love those radial "grill rings" on the nacelle fronts.
Wish I had internet access at work, so I wouldn't have to wait until this evening to see your progress on this. Oh well.

First, I'm lovin' this idea, and I really, REALLY like the direction you're going with the necelles, especially the aft 2/3 - 3/4 of it. But ..., um ..., how to put this delicately ...? It may be just me, but the front 1/4 of the nacelle looks a little too much like ... um ... anuncircumcisedpenis. :alienblush:

Okay, there, I said it.

Take it for what it's worth. :shifty:

Why not Cawley's ST: Phase II refit as shown here:

I think a Mad version of this would be sweet.

hmm, if that's the impression you are getting, that's not good. :) I'm still not sure how exactly I'm going to leave that area yet. Updates later on today. :)

Ok, been tweaking and thinking again...

I'm trying to merge some lines of both types of nacelles, here... the back of the "cowling" has a similar profile to the back end of the original nacelle, while it tapers down like the refit version. I split that part into two parts, so that there isn't as much blank space there, and tweaked the details around the dome. It was somewhat inspired by Gabe Koerner's design, if no one can tell. :)

:bolian:

I like that nacelle treatment much better (not that my opinion alone should necessarily count for much.) I really like the nacelle caps being closer to the diameter of the nacelle body, as on the original. Probably because I'm so familiar with the original, those relative proportions just "look right".

I can definitely see the Koerner influence, and I think it works here, though may hear from those who think that if this is intended to be a "prime universe" ship it should eschew "nuTrek" referents. Not saying I agree or disagree with that proposition; just that I've seen it raised enough times around here to anticipate it.

In any event, I like where you''re headed already, and am looking forward to seeing what you do with this, as I always look forward to your creations. :techman:

It's funny you should mention the size of the Nacelle caps... They didn't actually change. :) I think it's the overhang that does it, but it seems to tie it in better.

I think I'm almost done with these, for now, and I'll start on the saucer next. :)
