New guy needs Help with Phaser carry

Hey guys,
I'm new to the forum as well as the world of Star Trek as a whole although I've been a buff since I was a wee lad, but I finally made it!

At the moment, I am putting together an Original Series engineering crewmans impression. I have a custom uniform being made, located the correct boots, and even picked up a phaser type 2 from Art Asylum and also a communicator.

My question is what do I do about a utility belt? I've been searching around the internet for days as well as on this site and I still haven't found a concrete solution on how to correctly carry the phaser and communicator.

So far it seems that no vendor is making and selling anything that would do this somewhere, so what do I do?

Should I buy some sort of a Star Trek belt (like I see listed on Ebay) and sew velcro in places and that would be correct?

Since I've never been to a convention or personally know anyone who has so I don't have any source or examples on what's the solution so I thought I would ask the professionals..

Cheers,
Serge

Yep. Velcro. Just like they did on the show. (Well, after the first few episodes when they had custom-made suede utility belts.) Attach a piece to the back of your communicator and the side of your Phaser 1 and you'll be good to go.

Buy some leatherette at a fabric shop and cut a strip, or -- and this would be my choice -- do the season 2 thing and sew the Velcro directly to your pants.

The velcro itself could be the belt, I've done this with my TOS miniskirt dress. It's not too expensive, Put the fuzzy side of the velcro on the piece of equipment, the fuzzy side tends to pick up lint. Have the belt itself be the spiky side of the velcro, three inches wide (whatever), glue a nice size piece of fuzzy on the back side of the spiky belt where it would overlap, that's your "buckle." If (when) the belt picks up lint use masking tape to clean it.

You can get wide strips of black velcro at craft stores and hardware stores. Probably end up throwing most of the fuzzy side away.

Hope that helps.

For my Halloween neds, I bought a police belt on line. It's had Velcro from end to end. So I could slap the communicator pretty much anywhere and have to worry about hitting the little patch.

For the phaser, I bought a pach of leather at a fabric store, put velcro strips on the nice end and looped it around the belt to it hung off the side, but stayed secure. Velcro sticks really well to leather. It worked perfectly.
