New Frontier

That would be a good question for the Pocket editors and author Peter David. The last "book" was a trilogy of novellas that were only released as ebooks, and there are no known plans to print those as one book yet

Nothing else is planned that the general public knows about at this point. But who knows? Maybe Pocket and Mr. David are working on a deal right now...but I wouldn't hold my breath :)

^ He has already answered questions About NF. Seems as if there are no news on that front:

Graphic Audio has been doing full cast adaptation of Marvel Comics novels. Any word on them possibly adapting your Hulk novel What Savage Beast?
Also, any word on more New Frontier novels?
Or any word on a new X-Factor series?

That’s an interesting idea, but I’m not sure they do adaptations of books that aren’t in print anymore. But that would be cool if they did. And no word on either of those projects, sorry.

Any plans for any new Trek projects in any medium, even if you can’t reveal the details? I’be been enjoying rereading your older works this year. Q-Squared and New Frontier have aged well.

No plans because, frankly, no one is paying me to think about it. I have general thoughts on New Frontier but as of this point, no plans to write them.

Any chance of New Frontiers the Returned in book form?

Also, how about a collection of your short stories?

Boy, a lot of NF questions. Again, no word from Pocket. I have been thinking about doing a short story collection, though. God knows I have enough. The problem is that most short story collections don’t sell unless they’re by Stephen King or Neil Gaiman, someone on that level.

Almost 18 months ago you released the 3 Star Trek New Frontier novels, with the phrase if they sell well more will follow. So did they do ok to warrant more novels? I hope the answer is yes (also when for the next one)

No idea. Pocket books has not committed to any more. On the other hand, it took them five years to commit to those.

In New Frontier, when Selar has her baby, it seems to be implied that “he” is dual gendered like Burgoyne, but following books establish him as male. Did I misunderstand that or was that a dropped subplot or something?

No, he’s definitely male.

I'll just be happy if the ebook trilogy gets a paperback release. Cuz...ebooks. Ugh.

Ironically, I was anti-ebook until these last 3 NF ebooks. Its not the same as a paper book, but it wasn't as bad as I thought. I used the Kindle app on my iPad mini.

I am reading old New Frontier stories. I miss these characters. I would love a new novel with a fresh start. I think the mistake of the relaunch was in picking up the previous cliffhanger instead of doing something more new reader friendly.

I wonder if Peter David (PAD) and CBS would be willing to open the characters from NF up to be used as guest stars in other series? I don't know if I'd want more novels devoted entirely to them written by PAD, but I wouldn't mind seeing them pop up in smaller roles.
Yes, I know PAD doesn't have any real ownership of the characters, but I would like to think anybody else who would want to use them would at least try to get his OK first.

David Mack used the mirror versions in Rise Like Lions. Apparently PAD was fine with it?

I would think Shelby would be fairly easy to use elsewhere as an Admiral giving orders to one of the ships...

She's only sector commander for 221-G, isn't she? It'd have to be something happening in that area if so.

We don't know. New Frontier is several years behind the rest of current continuity. Might even be PreDestiny?

Shelby was included in Q&A, and she was still in that same role I think; so pre-Destiny, yeah, but not by much. I can't remember if she's shown up since then.
