New Fan Film Series, Star Trek: New Era

Just wanted to point out this indiegogo Star Trek scam:

https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/star-trek-sulu#/

(sorry Greg for the link, not promoting it, just using it as an example)

Here is a delusion fan asking for 200k fro make a Sulu TV series. He cant even spell Excelsior correctly on the reward levels.

My point is, if you need to separate yourself from people like these if you are truly serious about making a fan series. Of course Indiegogo is like the slut of crowd funding for even allowing some of these jems (like the one above) to be put on there site.

Hope he doesn't spend that $1 all in one place!

He needs $200,000 to "The funding is going simply to make sure we get the right players to the table."

So I see he has went to the Alec Peters School of Donation Management.

Some thoughts about this.

More than a decade ago I used TMP screencaps to Photoshop some stills of a fictional series set after TMP. And I called it...

I did stills for about 4-6 imaginary stories (actually based on some TOS fanfic I had written). I even Photoshopped an opening credits sequence.

Conceptually I have long thought this to be an interesting idea and that one could rationalize a second 5-year mission after TMP. That said I also acknowledge the incredible hurdles in making such an idea happen, As was mentioned upthread it's something easy to do in prose fiction, but daunting to actually build and film.

@Warped9

I've seen something on YouTube, that has a Photonovel style approach like that idea above, but crossed over with Babylon 5. There was film music dubbed over the story images. Like other have said, there is a timeframe to allow for a second Kirk 5 year mission.

@ Star Trek New Era

Funding campaign shortcomings aside, perhaps greenscreen is a way to proceed initially? Nick from Intrepid has shown this, as had the Hidden Frontier group. Or perhaps a mockup similar to how Potempkin Productions created their TUC styled bridge? There are many people here that can chip in with suggestions as to try and produce some vignette style films that may be easier to produce than trying to recreate the complex TMP style sets for your project.

Speaking of Photonovels,

I created (and wrote most of) a 20 episode 5th season of Star Trek: Enterprise back in 2005 that covered the Romulan war, that became a photonovel project for some friends of mine. You can check it out here: http://enterprises5.yolasite.com/

Originally, I wanted to animate the whole thing with a process I made called 'fanimation' but just did not have the resources at time to do it.

I like this idea - It'd be a nice change from all the 5 year mission era films but still Kirk and Spock, and the post-TMP pre-TWOK timeframe is a wonderfully huge space for storytellers to fill!

I remember the screengrabs, do you still have them by chance anywhere?

The main thing I tweaked in these photomanips was the colour of the uniforms.

WOW! AMAZING! INCREDIBLE, STUPENDOUS, EVEN!

I cannot believe my browser didn't crash on all those picts.

;)

As I saidI like the idea of a series in this era but there have been so many fan film pitches where their only 'credibility' seems to be CGI ship porn literally as if it's the thing that seduces fans. Yes it's a big part of Trek but by no means the do all or end all!

What about the actors, sets, costumes, stories etc? And who's actuallly making the thing? There was a Titan thing saying "if we have 1 million FB likes there will be a series with Frakes & Sirtis!" there were pics of the Titan and that's it - I challenged them for more details and they swiftly deleted my comments!

Thats the thing. There are tons of ideas floating around and some of them are actually worthy and full of potential. But realizing them is a whole other game.

And, to be fair, there are some ideas whose worth goes largely unrecognized until they're actually realized.

@Warped9 - Great work! Gives one the chills.
It reminds me of the Johnny Byrne Star Trek TOS Foto Novels - yours are of really similar quality. Kudos!

Thanks. It's not my intention to derail this thread, but I was compelled to illustrate the OP's idea is not at all new. And while I cannot claim with total certainty that I am indeed the first the think of the title Star Trek: New Era I did think of it more than a decade ago.

Really great to see these photo's, I always thought that with a bit of colour tweaking the TMP uniforms could work. Looks like the instigator of this thread has gone very quiet perhaps this is just a scam ?

Let's cast no aspersions on the OP. I think the OP is just another dreamer who thought/thinks making a film is easy. "If you crowdfund it they will come". Every post he's written to date and the way he dodged who his "team" was smacks of a typical overexcited fan with grand ideas but no actual ability to carry it out... as does his ending every sentence with a bang (!). :)

Warped 9, the next time you decide to share so many photos may I humbly suggest you consider putting the bulk of them inside Spoiler code tags? Your two pic posts here require scrolling down TWENTY or more full screen lengths to get past.
