Geez, just saw that Midnight's Edge video and read the talkback.... talk about depressing........... I still have high hopes for Discovery on a creative level, but I am not so sure anymore commercially..........can anyone say something to raise my spirit?

I'll give it a shot :bolian:
1) From the comments on Trek forums/Reddit/YouTube it seems every other Trekkie hates Discovery, BUT polls on the trailer thread actually show most people (who voted) liked it. People who complain may simply be a false (loud) majority.
2) If that "Midnight's edge" video is wrong, you don't have to be concerned.
3) If that "Midnight's edge" video is right, we are getting ANOTHER Trek show (that's much more Trek-like). So you should be happy.
4) From the reactions on "Midnight's edge" video it's obvious most people who commented were against Discovery (possibly the aforementioned "false or loud majority"). The video confirms their theory so thay are inclined to believe the theory it presents.
5) Netflix presumably analyzed their data on Trek viewers and decided they will spend a lot of money on acquiring brodcasting rights for the whole world. Perhaps they are all incompetent morons, BUT there is a small chance they saw a promising market. And they have much more data and a sophisticated analytical software than an average Trekkie.
6) Several people from Trek subreddit told me they are looking forward to Discovery, but don't want to comment anything positive because some loud anti-Discovery fans downvote them. Perhaps there is a "silent majority"? Perhaps not. But perhaps yes.
7) I'm looking forward to Discovery, so you are not alone
8) Discovery production was most certainly troubled. But Voyager had to replace their lead actress after filming had already begun! Yet it survived for 7 years. Troubled production is not a problem if they pull their shit together on time. Which Discovery seemingly did.
9) Discovery cast seems like it has great chemistry and they look very optimistic. Of course they are actors, but wouldn't they be a bit more neutral if they already know Discovery is over, and are looking for new jobs?
10) Michelle Yeoh? Shezhou? Potential Chinese market---> 1.3 billion people. The world doesn't revolve around UK-USA (anymore). Perhaps the Chinese will love it!

Are you feeling better? If not PM me and I'll give it another shot :)

If wishes were horses, I'd have at least 400 of them under the hood of my car.
I still don't see the logic of thinking they'll make another show if this one fails. Scifi (without a heaping helping of fantasy and comedy) is not trending these days. Star Trek films are stalled due to the lackluster performance of the last 2, and the money people don't like shows that don't earn them huge Ferengi-like profit. I've been avoiding the Midnight edge video. I guess I'll need to check it out.

Thanks!!! It helped for sure! :)

Thanks for the link. There is a lot of smoke around Meyer and his secret project lately. I assume there must be some fire there too. But what is the real nature of this fire (or is it just a spark?) we don't know. I personally find this rumor more believable than "Meyer is working on a show to replace DOA Discovery." No evidence to back this belief up, just a hunch.

That could be interesting, but I don't know how believeable it is. Is Geek Exchange usually right when it comes to this kind of stuff?

As for Discovery, I really doubt CBS is concerned, from everything I've seen and read they appear to be behind it 100%. Yeah, it's had problems, but a lot of productions of this caliber has problems, hell it took 15 months for the new season of Game of Thrones to start, and almost 2 years for Rick & Morty to get it's 3rd Season to air. I have not seen anything to make me doubt that Discovery is going to be great. I loved both trailers, and everybody seems to be saying exactly the kind of stuff I want people to say about Trek.

I love TWOK, but it was a one off movie, not something to constantly try to emulate or recapture. Plus there's far more to what made it good than Khan.

I doubt they're making a Khan miniseries, but if they were, I'd prefer it focus on the Eugenics War/WWIII rather than the years on Ceti Alpha V.

The reason that you're depressed is that you read YouTube comments. The residents of Mos Eisley have nothing on them as far as scum and villainy go, especially with the combination of (a) a minority of Trekkies who hate anything new, and (b) alt-right Nazis who hate anyone who fails the paper bag test or has a vagina.

Here is something to raise your spirit. If "Discovery" is a failure, either in terms of quality or popularity we still get more Trek with the Meyer version which might be on CW.
There won't be a Meyer Star Trek on the CW, this rumor is completely unbelievable. The CW budgets aren't high enough to doma proper Star Trek show and why would CBS let Nick Meyer run a Star Trek show in the first place? He has no experience as a showrunner.
