New Enterprise fan....

Well thats not entirely accurate. When Enteprise first aired I did catch the first season on a semi regular basis but I believe it was shortly in season 2 when I dropped the show, I think it was right around the time they revealed that Vulcans introduced humans to velcro....

Anyway, with the show now available on Netflix I've decided to go back and watch the entire series. Ive been moving right along through season 1 and I finished Sleeping Dogs last night.

So far the standou episodes Ive seen have been: the Andorian Incident and Dear Doctor.
The worst yet is Unexpected

I did appreciate Archer getting his "captain kirk" episode in Civilization, where he gets to punch bad aliens and kiss hot alien chicks lol.

Curious if anything ever followed up with the enemy in silent enemy...still early in the series though...

As for this whole Temporal Cold War, which the name is confusing....aliens that are actively mucking with the past are involved in a cold war? I thought a Cold War was where where two enemies were not moving against one another, like US and Soviets through the 80s.
So we've seen Broken Bow that introduced the concept, the Sulliban which apparently are a race that exists in the present but these have genetic tampering done to them by someone or group from the future.
If they knew the Sulliban were around and these were different, didnt they think maybe they should go look the Sulliban up in the present and see if they can find some clues?
Next we see them in Cold Front, which honestly left me scratching my head because it felt like they just leapt headfirst into the story at warp speed going from Broken Bow's hey theres this thing in the future to its happening, been happening and your in the middle of it and when its resolved its not really because you will have more questions then when you started.

I know Im only 14 episodes into the series but these are just my reactions to what Ive seen so far.

Looking forward to Shadows of P'Jem which by the title implies a followup to the Andorian Incident that I really liked. (Great see Jeffery Combs again...you cold see a little Weyoun under the surface lol)

I welcome comments and conversations from fellow Ent fans but I ask you respect where I am at in the series and not give spoilers!

Enterprise was a great show. Jeffery Combs is brilliant as Shran. Maybe his best Trek performance ever. You will see him again. I always thought Shran had great interaction with Archer.

Shran is my kids favorite character in Enterprise. Combs does a lot of cartoon voice work (particularly as villans) these days and they always say, "Come hear Shran's voice, Dad!"

I watched Shadows of PJem last night. It was good, but I was a little disappointed that the Andorians were only in it at the end. It also kind of felt a little forced, the tension between Tripp and the Vulcan commander and the aliens holding them hostage was enough already, so bringing the Andorians in at the last minute, Im not sure if it helped or hurt the episode.
Still nice to see Jeffrey Combs again though

What's bizarre is Unexpected actually was entertaining when it was simply about the Enterprise offering the interstellar version of helping with a flat tire. It was meeting a new alien culture and just being HAPPY to do so.

He should have done more of that, to be honest.

It was badly explained, but a Cold War is fought by proxy. We only have one to go by but the USA and Soviet Union killed thousands of each others troopers using other-smaller nations.

I assume the principle applies here. The Suliban are, bizarrely, I guess the Vietnamese.

Honestly, I lost a lot of respect for the concept when the genetic tampering gave them not improved strength and intellect like Khan but the powers of the X-men and Fantastic Four.

To be fair, Earth has encountered like 4 or 5 races other than the Vulcans. The VHC also seems to be deliberately hiding stuff from Earth all the time so it's quite possible they don't know where the Suliban live.

Plus to add to your defense of my thoughts on their present day Sulliban, Im realizing the Vulcans arent exactly buying the whole Temporal Cold War just on Archer's sayso.

I watched Shuttlepod One and Fusion today.

Shuttlepod One was a really long episode to get through, I can see the potential the writers were looking at when they came up with the idea but the execution left me waiting for it to be over, and ironically Tripp and Malcom are 2 of my favs so far on the show.

Fusion, was good. The Vulcans they met trying to find balance between their logic and emotions was an interesting idea.
That said, the show was a little predictable. From the minute I met T'pal's attacker I knew there was something not right about him and as soon as they started explaining their philosphy towards life I turned to my wife and said, "there gonna do a mind meld", of course my wife looked at me and said, "when is this going to be done?" LOL

Watched Rogue Planet and Acquisition last night.

Rogue Planet was another ok episode, as for Acquisition...Im a little confused.

The Ferengi???

Not that it wasnt nice to see the ever versatile Jeffrey Combs again (they should just make this guy a series regular) and Neelix!!!

So the Ferengi board Enterprise and start looting the place and over the course of the episode Archer, Tripp and T'Pal interact with them.
However when Picard makes "first contact" with them aboard the Stargazer a century later which costs him his ship and the life of his friend Jack Crusher, they have no idea who the Ferengi are.

Am I the only one slapping a question mark on this episode?

My take -- and I could be wrong here, I'm just judging things from appearances -- B and B thought the show's fanbase/salvation was in capturing fans from the TNG era on, versus going with any kind of TOS appeal. Yeah, they had Andorians, but I think someone told me a long time ago that BnB were originally opposed to that idea. Again:

Watched Oasis, it was an ok episode but it reminded me of a DS9 episode I saw once with Dax and Odo, and I think that it was handled better on that one.

I talked about Detained in another thread, complaining about the missied opportunities but I will say, I did enjoy this episode somewhat.

It goes back to what I was saying about the Sulliban, we have 2 distinct races that are both Sulliban on the show. The ones modified from the future for shennanigans and than the ones we see in Detained that are just going about their business.

I thought the story was strong and well written with the wrongs of a few affecting the good of the many and a strong performance by Dean Stockwell, who it was nice to see alongside Scott Bakula again.

I very much envy you. I would love to be watching these episodes for the very first time. It's something I'm doing with Smallville right now, and fans of the show are saying how much they wish they were watching it all over again with no knowledge of what they have already seen! ENjoy each moment, and you will be rewarded by sticking with it. The series gets better as it moves along. You may be frustrated at the end as all of us were in 2005...as the show was just hitting its stride and there so much potential and more stories to tell. But...we got four seasons of episodes, and that's not bad.

One thing I liked about Unexpected was the fact that (and ENT does follow up on this a bit in an episode you apparently have not yet seen, called Cogenitor), other species aren't necessarily identical to us when it comes to sexuality. And you'll find with Phlox, they aren't necessarily identical to us when it comes to relationship values. IDIC, indeed.

Which is all well and good...but consider the flip side, their sex is nothing like ours, so if Trip had put his penis inside whatever orifice she has available and just said "this is a game humans play" without any further explanation, what would you think?

I'm not disputing re the Xyrillians. The whole thing was weird. And Aahlen (sp?) certainly should've had at least a clue about what could have happened. After all, at least from our perspective, people don't go around offering their genitals to us (or conduits to same) under the guise of a "game", without any further explanation.

But poor communications between species should also be expected, particularly in the ENT era, when the tech wasn't as good. Actually, I'm a little surprised that they didn't go that route - "She said it was a game." "Oops, the translator's not working properly." Not to be flip about it, but I can see that as being something that, maybe, should've been explored. Kinda a pity that the Xyrillians were just an alien of the week. I would've liked to have seen other followup.

I agree Enterprise was a great show and Combs as Shran was awesome. They should have done a fifth season
