New DS9 Music Video

Nemesis

Lieutenant
Red Shirt
Hello all,
I've created a new music video. I'm really proud of it, because it was very difficult to get the right scenes on the right time. I hope you'll enjoy it.
It's about the Dominion war, but not as most Dominion war music videos are. I tried to be different and also added some personal combat and sadness.
Your opinion is very welcome.

Very well done. I really like the feel.

My only complaint is that this seems to be a Dominion-conflict-centered piece, yet there are clips from other conflicts. Otherwise, great job!

Thank you. True true. I've used images from every season. Also with battles between klingons and federation. It's still a fight for survival and it was the klingon war with the federation was prepared by the founders and a prelude for the dominion. For me that's a good reason to use those wonderful scenes, but you're right.

VERY nice. My big question: what album did that song come from? I am definitely a fan of Loreena McKennitt and would love to buy the album.

I loved how you showed the devastation of the war...that was very moving, especially towards the end. And I am glad to see you picked up on the same little tidbit I noticed during "What You Leave Behind"--seems like you also noticed during the final battle how scenes were shown of all of the allied ships fighting, suffering, and dying...and they also showed the Cardassians suffering as well, during that battle, whereas the Breen and the Dominion were never shown in that light. It was maybe a 2-second shot in the episode, but putting it there really said a lot--made for a very sobering moment. I thought I saw that same bit in your video as well.

My only two critiques are I would've put that "first battle" quote at the start of the video...also, I thought the Klingon war stuff was a little odd to see in there, plus I don't recall there being any damage to Bajor during the war (whereas Cardassia got pounded). But those are only small nits--otherwise, I thought this was very well done.

It was different because of the ending on the horrors of war rather than straight fighting through to the end. Including the Cardassian devastation as well was a nice touch.

Nice work

Thank you both for your kind words. I've shown every kind of battle(klingon and dominion) because it's a fight for survival. In that point of view both battles are correct. But yes, you're right it's more pointed to the dominion war. The destruction of Bajor is from the first episode, it's done by the Cardies. If you don't know DS9 it looks very convincing and not strange :)

But thank you :) It's just something to look after when I create a new music video :) I "loved" the ending also. It's fits perfectly with the music. By the way. This is from the soundtrack of the movie "mists of avalon". It's sung by Loreena Mckennit.

Does the whole soundtrack sound kinda like that? If so, I'd definitely be interested in it.

And you're welcome!

I don't know :) I think the music sounds more like what loreena Mckennit always sings. Maybe you can listen to some small peaces on it at a webshop or something like that.

Its well done. My only complaint is that IMO these DS9 tributes end up merely being Dominion War tributes and DS9 was so much more than that. Most folks who put together these tributes just seem to forget 85% of the stories of the show and focus exclusively on the Dominion War years, specifically the space battles. After awhile it all looks the same to me.

True true,

I agree with you. Too much music videos are focussed on the dominion war. Therefore I have also 4 other DS9 music videos. (tributes). But this music videos is in my opinion different from the most Dominion War Music videos. I tried to put in some extra like personall combat and in the end some sadness.

Way to go, Nemesis! That's a pretty cool video.

I really liked the music that went with it. In some parts, it kind of reminded me of The Host Of Seraphim by Dead Can Dance. Y'know, I always thought that a DS9 music video set to that particular tune (either the DCD original, or the extended version from The Mist) would be particularly effective. (Hint, hint!)

hehe :) Thank you!
I will "acquire" the song and listen to it. What did you have in mind? battles or something else?

Well...I'm thinking of the really powerful and emotional moments that DS9 does so well. I mean, you've got quite a few highlights in your own video, but I'm thinking that you could also go for many scenes that tend to get overlooked or passed over.

Also, even if there are Dominion War-related clips, I would suggest you try not to use too much of it, because frankly I've O.D.'d somewhat on the use of Dominion War footage in so many of the DS9 fan videos I've seen on YouTube!

For the beginning, the opening of the title sequence with the passing comet leaving its trail of dust, leading up to the main title. With the opening of The Host Of Seraphim, I just know that'd work like gangbusters! (But not the entire credit sequence, though...)

And here are just a few more suggestions, at random, in no particular order:

Kira confined with bright light shining on her, being confronted with the disfigured killer Silarin Prin (The Darkness And The Light).

The possessed Sisko fretting and fussing over his clock (Dramatis Personae).

Jake frantically running for cover, hits and explosions going off all around him; or Jake breaking down in tears; or anything from ...Nor The Battle To The Strong!

Anything from The Visitor! (I'm thinking specifically of Kira talking to Jake in the dark, in front of the window, their faces reflected in the glass, but you simply cannot go wrong with anything from that particular episode!)

Anything from Things Past (one of my personal favorites; one suggestion that comes to mind is Odo seeing the "ghosts" of the executed Bajorans).

Sisko and Dukat angrily confronting each other in the cave, in Waltz.

The scene where the possessed Dukat kills Jadzia Dax in the Bajoran temple and opens the doors of the ark containing the Orb (Tears Of The Prophets).

Anything from The Siege Of AR-558. Understand, I'm not necessarily shying away from anything Dominion War-related, but I prefer the more personal, character-based stuff to the space battles. (Although yeah, sure, I love a good space battle as much as the next guy!)

Anything from Duet. (Like The Visitor, that's an episode you just cannot go wrong with!)

Sisko storming into Garak's tailor shop and striking him in the face, knocking him down (In The Pale Moonlight).

The scene from The Adversary involving Odo's fight with the shapeshifter; perhaps the shot of Odo throwing the other changeling against the warp core; or Odo watching helplessly while the dying changeling dissolves into ash.

The interrogation scene between Odo and Garak in The Die Is Cast, with the flaking, detoriorating Odo convulsing in agony while Garak desperately tries to get him to say something, anything! (As you can guess, I'm a pretty big fan of both those characters!)

Nog's tearful speech to Vic Fontaine in the holosuite toward the end of It's Only A Paper Moon (perhaps intercut with the scenes of Nog getting shot in The Siege Of AR-558?...).

Perhaps something from Civil Defense: Dukat's message on the viewscreen; Dukat and Garak arguing with disruptor fire blasting past them; Kira and Dukat confronting each other in the commander's office - and definitely the part where Dukat knocks Sisko's baseball off the desk!

An intercutting of Pah-wraith-related material: The possessed Jake and Kira confronting and then battling each other on the Promenade in The Reckoning; Dukat cracking open the figurine and the Pah-wraith entering him in Tears Of The Prophets; or perhaps Keiko's fall from the second level of the Promenade in The Assignment...

I'll let you know when I think of more! :D

Ohh, if you're going to go for serious emotion, if you like the above poster's idea...I'm gonna have to mention "Second Skin" and "Ties of Blood and Water".

Hell yeah! Good thinking, Nerys, I forgot about those two!

And if anyone's not sure what piece of music I'm talking about when I refer to The Host Of Seraphim, I'm referring to a song from the late '80s by the group Dead Can Dance. I thought this would make a really great soundtrack to a DS9 video.

Ever seen Frank Darabont's film version of Stephen King's The Mist? Yup, that's the song!

Thanks! Those two episodes both brought tears to my eyes. Personally, I would mix in a bit of the dialogue into the audio if I were doing this (not just for that, but the other episodes mentioned), because some of the lines in these scenes are SO key.

For Second Skin...DEFINITELY the scene where Tekeny cradles Kira and promises to get her off Cardassia. Heck, the whole bit from the mirror-smashing into that scene would be just perfect.

For Ties of Blood and Water...many scenes could work, but I think you could go through several to show the progression in that episode.

Oh, and here's the song he's referring to--yeah, I think this would work great. And I may have just been introduced to a new band, if most of their stuff is like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tluogv9EGTQ

well... how about ideas ;) I've listen to the song. I understand what you mean but I want to know a few things.

Is the song from a soundtrack(movie)?
You talk about scenes were you specific call some dialogue, do you think that dialogue have to be heard in the video, or you just see the people say it..

It's a very long song.. but I understand mostly what you mean. You say you like more DS9 music videos. Well I have a few more for you.

Just take a look here
I've a lot more DS9 tributes there.

DS9 Tribute 1: Memories - About the memories of the persons who join DS9 in the first episode.
DS9 Tribute 2: In Caelum Fero - About DS9 in General, no specific story, just showing how great the show is
DS9 Tribute 3: Hurt - About the death of Ziyal and her relationship with Dukat
DS9 Tribute 4: Sorrow - About the sadness in the dominion war, specially about the episode the Siege of AR-558

other music videos I have:

Farewell - About the death of spock, first serious music video I've created
TNG Tribute 1: Why - About the death of Tasha Yar
At your Side - About friendship in all of the Star Trek series.

Download them and watch them in full quality!

Hm...I think in some cases actually hearing the dialogue might be a good idea in a few of the most poignant cases, though I wouldn't do it all over the video. Probably in quieter scenes where it wouldn't totally overwhelm the music. That's just my personal taste, anyway.

okay. But it will take a while. I only create a few music videos a year, because it takes a lot of time to create them properly and I have little time. This is the first year I've created 3 music videos. I've more ideas at the moment, I've started with some of them. So I'll add it to the list :)
