New Digital animation for TAS- would you want it?

TAS had no such imperfections in the picture.
TAS had much, much funnier imperfections. Like the time they accidentally gave Scotty a mustache.
I received an early Father's Day gift of TAS on DVD. "Beyond the Farthest Star" is the first episode and I was aggravated to notice Lt. Arex instantly transmorphing into a redshirt next to Sulu.

There are some other things I would change were it actually remastered:
- the crew's eyes... there are no whites or colored irises... however in "The Lorelei Signal" those women had both whites and irises
- the coloring... Kirk's (and others') rank often changes color, the black collars of their uniforms will change to shirt color and back again in the same scene

There are others. Having said this, my first introduction to Star Trek was through TAS. Watching it this week brought back heretofore lost memories. Until now I thought TOS in syndication was my first experience... this has been a HUGE revelation for me!

Since yesterday, I have watched the first five episodes, so I am still giddy as I write this.:techman:

Hey, Palin! How's that "Drill, baby, drill" thing workin' out?]

But you "love" Sarah too, though, right? OK, Just funnin' with ya. Back to serious stuff, Star Trek cartoons! The TAS really brings back to me my earliest memories of a full life (age 6-7). (I definitely have earlier "memories," but 1973 is about as early as I can remember what life felt like.

I would love to see a full-out CGI remake of TAS. I've seen the new CGI Captain Scarlet; making TAS look like that would be an awesome sight indeed. Just ask Ptrope and his Star Trek Reanimated project... :techman:

AFAIK, this was due to Hal Sutherland's colorblindness.

Re: Paramount announces new Digital animation for TAS!!!

Who'd want to watch cartoon that looks modern but sounds retro? It only works the other way around, and even then it's just for parodies like Sealab 2021.

Modern animation wouldn't mesh with '70s music, '70s voice acting practices, or '70s writing. I'd rather they did a new cartoon from scratch.

This. :techman:

Re: Paramount announces new Digital animation for TAS!!!

It would be an interesting experiment, as a lot of the animation is pretty poor, but Lord Garth is probably right.

He was not the only animator. The credits list over a dozen. Were all of them colorblind, as well?

1- Nothing in my signature says that I hate anyone, but thank you for trying to bring politics out of the TNZ and into an unrelated thread.
2- If I call you an idiot for your statement, but add, "Just funnin' with ya" its OK, right?
3- Try to stay On Topic in the future. I do try, but occasionally someone will try to get me off topic... like... ummm... now.
4- TrekBBS has this exciting new invention called PM (Private Messaging) for personal discussions unrelated to threads.

Please, calm down. No one in their right mind *likes* Sarah Palin- it's a JOKE.
I really, really want to believe you, Chrisisall, but I have met actual teabaggers (some are relatives). They love her. Go figure.:cardie:
Also, since becoming a member here, I have been attacked more than once... sometimes for being gay, sometimes for having an opinion about DS9 or nuSpock making out with nuUhura. You know, weird people hating over stupid stuff.

Star Trek fans hate other fans over stupid stuff? Who'da thunk it?:)

Re: Paramount announces new Digital animation for TAS!!!

I await the technology that will convert TAS episodes into actual "live action" style TOS episodes.
Sing it! :techman:

Quite some time ago I had fun recreating TAS scenes with photomanips from TOS.

Hal Sutherland was the director. He made the decisions that the animation staff followed. He approved the color keys that the ink & paint department followed. Actually Ervin L. Kaplan was the color director, the one whose job it presumably would've been to create the color keys, but like any filmmaker, he would've been subject to the director's approval.

And "over a dozen" is an understatement. IMDb lists 8 storyboard artists, 26 layout artists, 38 animators, 8 background artists, a xerography and paint supervisor (no doubt with assistants under her), a special-effects animator (ditto), and 10 camera operators. It's a big operation, and someone has to be in charge of the creative decisions (such as color) so that others can get on with the rest of the work.

1. Wow, get defensive, hey? I just thought it ironic that you would have a sig. about loving all people, then get snarky about Palin. No biggie. And I would argue that your sig brings politics into every post you write.

2. Where do I imply you're an idiot?

3. Don't tell me what to do.

4. But you didn't use that newfangled PM whatzit to reply to me.

Nevertheless:
What was meant as a small, good natured ribbing, and an echo to your nice sentiment about good memories triggered by TAS actually elicited anger and hurt. This was not my intent and I apologize. Be well.

Leave the politics out of here. We get enough fights over original Star Trek versus nuTrek, you know?

Are they online?

Looking at it the other way it might be interesting to turn some 3rd season episodes into TAS style animations?

I actually wouldn't mind seeing updated animation for TAS even though I do like the original. I am curious to see what they could do with it.

I couldn't get through even five minutes of Shatner's souless "acting".....no...he's not even doing that. He's just reading things in damn near a monotone. I remember that from years past and found I was all too happy to just read the text and "hear" the actors as they were when they were at the top of their game.

As far as CGIing TAS....Hell yes. As for 70's audio with today's animation...I'd have to see a complete ep before I'd dismiss it for that reason.
