Wow. That's so ugly it's gone all the way around to impressive.

Mostly, I'm impressed that anyone thought that was a good idea. On the other hand, I recently learned that CBS would prefer STO focus on "new" ships and move away from the canon designs. If one assumes this was CBS policy from the start the sheer ugly there seems pretty sensible in comparison. It's not like any one would join STO to command something like a Defiant or Galaxy, right?

Still, Captain Logan has been a step up from previous designers over there. I may not be all giggly over his work, but I still allow that he doesn't have a whole lot of time for these things. I'd like to see what he could do if he had time to refine an idea, or if he had a team to work with.

Yeah, it is quite a bit of a shame that he doesn't have enough time to put them through more of a refinement stage. I wonder how all of the STO designs would look if they were refined and better detailed. I wonder if he is even given time to make any concept sketches, or if he just simply goes straight to modeling?

I think the reason the STO designs aren't as refined as they could be is three-fold

A ) People's computers are variable. If you put subtle details into ships, there are some folks that won't see them. Hence why the chunky protrusions and why certain components feel almost toy-like, so that the ships will appear detailed on anybody's rig.

B ) Ship customization means that different components need to fit together, which sometimes means compromising one design to make its parts compatible with another.

C ) Deadlines and time constraints.

Wow, just discovered this thread. You'd think I'd pay more attention to one that actually has my name in the title.

Most of the new ship designs look pretty cool. I haven't always been a huge fan of the earlier STO designs but a lot of these are pretty eye-catching. I really like that new Intrepid class a lot, and not just because of the nod to my deflector design. I may be imagining it, but those "wicked" nacelles have some similar lines to the ones on my Ent-F contest submission as well.

Got some screen shots of the new Tier 4 vessels, Koro'Tinga and Thunder Child, the K'tinga and Akira refits, thought some might like something high-res to examine.

If you look closely at the aft windows of the Koro'Tinga, you can see Vektor in a hot threesome with a pair of lascivious Gorn females. Or it could be the pain meds talking. Yeah, that's more likely, I think.

I've flown all three, and they're very aesthetically pleasing as you twist and turn through dog fights and pitched battles, the Vektor inspired ship most especially.

The Beleraphon or however it's spelled, is a cool piece of Vektor fanart. She's equipped with a badass special console which allows her to super charge a photon torpedo (Not quantum or other specialty torpedos) so that it causes a big AOE which knocks ships around its target around.


The Gladius has a kick-ass after burner console, she could give the Delta Flyer a run for her money. She's an unusual Trek design, but I find her rather aesthetically pleasing.

The Exeter is a simply, but pleasant vessel. I don't have a lot to say, she's more or less what she should be, a clean, simple and aesthetically pleasing design. Her special torpedo console lets her hunt down cloaked vessels, mostly a PVP thing.

There's stuff all over that Belerophon with similarities to my Ent-F submission, not just the deflector dish. Among other things, the nacelles have the same basic lines, and the primary hulls have a similarly tiered structure and the same "axe head" shape flaring out at the bow.

Very cool looking ship.

Because I hate them with a passion. They go far above and beyond annoying the crap out of me.

Also, I have my own webspace to host them on so you don't have to go through ad laden webspace. And it's for easier for me to link to a single zip file than it is to upload them all individually.
