Title says it all really.

Edit: Comment from Mark Jefferies TV Editor on the Daily Mirror: BBC source has confirmed to me they will unveil new Doctor Who assistant tomorow. She is "pretty" but "not household name".

I hope it's a guy and not a character from present day UK. I would like an alien but if he has to be human he should be from the past or the future.

So who's taking bets that whoever they pick is going to be hated by a small but vocal contingent of the fanbase? I say that because that seems to be pattern. And god help them if they cast someone who, despite what the source tells Jeffries, does end up being a household name or at least associated with a TV series or movie and everyone will base their judgement on that. I remember all the eyerolling when Catherine Tate was cast, due to her reputation in comedy (even though outside the UK no one knew nor cared).

I just hope whoever they pick, the fanbase gives her a chance, especially since for all we know it could be 2013 before her first episode airs. I mean, they haven't picked badly yet in my opinion, at least not in the new series: Billie, Freema, Catherine, Karen and Arthur (not to mention Johnny B) all worked out pretty well, I thought. And the predictions made by some that "(Pick any one of the above names) will kill Doctor Who" has been pretty much proven to be utter nonsense. I'm stoked to find out who the new gal is. Wouldn't it be wild if it did end up being Sophia Myles after all? I wouldn't mind seeing Holly Earl reprising her role from the Christmas special too.

Yea, no matter who is chosen for Companion or Doctor, there will be eyerolling from some segment, that's the way it's always been.

Regarding Catherine Tate, I didn't know who she was when she appeared in Runaway Bride, but, after watching her in that, I did indeed roll my eyes when she announced to succeed Freema, because I was so relieved she didn't stick around after the Christmas Special. But, of course, as a regular Companion, she wasn't annoying like she was in Runaway Bride, and I grew to really, really like her, and I am glad we got her for the season. So, my eye rolling wasn't based on the name, but, based upon her actual performance in the Christmas Special.

I echo the sentiments about wanting a change with a Companion, make her not Modern Day England/Earth, please.

Cute is down a bit on the list of requirements for my tastes.

A believable, well written character and acting ability come before "cute"..

I think the question is, how is a cute female companion, different to any of the previous companions, which we were sorted promised.

Well unless it is Aisling Loftus and she is 2 inches tall in Doctor Who as well.

I don't give a fuck who's playing the companion, so long as the *character* is a change from the "21st century British girl who fancies the Doctor"

No kidding and personally speaking I would prefer to see a companion is a little bit older. I could see getting a lot of millage out of The Doctor being mistaken for a son or grand son of his companion :D

Well, since we don't know anything about the character or acting ability, forgive us for commenting on what we do currently know.
