New companion announced? Hopefully not true...

Not that I believe it for a second but he does have proper acting roles on his CV as well. However, ITV has him sewn up nice and tight with very lucrative contracts that he won't be walking away from any time soon.

I can see the comments now.. "What's this, Doctor? Traveling around with your Dad now?" "Need a MAN for protection?"

But seriously.. I've enjoyed what little I've seen him in.. I'm good to go with this.

Yeah he was great on Corrie...

I wouldn't know. He was fine on Law & Order UK, though Which was, of course, originally Produced by Chibnall.

BTW Walsh, like Frank Skinner, is a big DW fan so maybe he would walk away from the ITV money for a year or two...

He'll be there for one episode, or like Jackie Tyler, waiting at home for the next time the Doctor returns to the present.

I am not familiar with Bradley Walsh, but if it's true I want to give props to Chibnall for really thinking outside the box. :)

The snobbier end of fandom will look down on him but the fact is he's currently one of the most popular people on UK TV* and if Chibnall is intent on bringing back some of the general audience who've drifted away over the last few years it's not a totally insane idea.

Not entirely.

The negative fan reaction from giving the Doctor a big strong boyfriend to save her, 5 seconds after she gets a vagina, would be extreme considering how long it took the male Doctor to even notice the opposite sex.

Surley not?

I love Jodie as the Doctor but really a 57 year old Bradley Walsh as the companion? Is he going to have a daughter come along with him or something cause that might work a dad/daughter with the Doctor but just Bradley?

A lot of this I think will ride on exactly how the character plays out. I'd hate to think it's going down the route people are suspecting, but Bradley Walsh is hardly an obvious candidate for chisel jawed hero.

Give the guy his due, he can act and more to the point I can well imagine him camping it up as a comedy sidekick. Spot maintaining an open mind.....

"Confirmation"? No, just just other tabloids repeating the story. I'm hoping it's not true, but... It's not a choice that sits well with an attempt to lure younger viewers, or transatlantic ones - my suspicion would be that if there's truth in it, he'll be a recurring regular like Camille Coduri, Bernard Cribbins or Matt Lucas, rather than the main everyday travelling companion.

What if he's playing a famous historical figure?

That could be really fun and remove the need for a bullshit family story, or falling in love with the Doctor.

The more I think about it, the more it makes sense. If they went for a hot young guy that raises all sorts of potential issues, so go the male Donna Noble route instead. But as I said before I can't imagine ITV don't have him locked into several very genrerous contracts.
