New Battlestar Galactica Movie

I remember sitting down to watch the entire run of Soap a couple years ago, curious to see how Billy Crystal played gay back then when it was almost illegal... The oddest thing, despite being called a "fruit" the whole way through, and steadfast swearing that he was completely gay, Billy's character kept winding up with women.

Cowards.

The real question I have is this: Will J.J. Abrams be involved?
I hear he's the go to for these sci-fi franchise revivals and what has he done lately? Give the man some work.

^^I don't know about Abrams himself, but I would be very surprised if one of his associates like Orci or Lindelof weren't.

I'll happily give it a chance but nothing compares to RDM's definitive take on BSG. That show still stands amongst the best television series that I've ever seen.

Larson's producer role is probably a legal requirement or some sort of courtesy. IIRC, he had a producer credit on the recent TV show but no real involvement.

^^^ For the TV version that would be the limit of GAL's involvement, yes. But he retained the rights to making feature films. At least, that was the case a few years ago. If he continued to hold on to those rights (and he's probably hashing out the final contractural verbiage w/ Universal as we speak), his involvement would certainly be deeper than just a passing tagline credit on this particular project.

That's assuming he actually wants a bigger role in the production. He might just want a nice paycheck. :)

Oh, yes, it could go either way on that front. :)

However, I do recall his many attempts at working on a Commander Cain/Battlestar Pegasus effort many years ago, that he showed great passion for at the time, and may yet still - a possible way to sidestep the Battlestar Galactica property issues with Universal vis a vis a heretofore unseen loophole in his contract with them. This may even be the path this new "reimagining" is potentially taking. Not Galactica at all, but Pegasus. Who knows? It would be kind of an interesting deviation if that's how it winds up panning out.
