New Bash: Experimental TMP-era Starfleet ringship

Surprised I haven't commented on this yet, but what can I say that hasn't already been said? :D Great work! Interesting little dual deflector there, and I like the way you've attached the ring using short pylons instead of directly to the, uh, pontoons(?).

Yeah, I don't know what to call them either.
Reactor housings? Hull extensions? Tail booms?

John eaves said he liked it again on facebook. A Trek modeling group nominated it for ship of the week. Damn. I just sort of doodled it. :alienblush:

My only problem--& this is a stupid niggling little nitpick--is the placement of the torp pod at the top of the ring. Aesthetically, it's bitchin'; tactically, my brain screams it's not logical & really a bad idea. But that's my own brainmeats analyzing everything.

You've always had great ideas on design lines, John. This is another stunner.

I was also going to ask about the shuttlebay but it was already addressed, which leaves the question of why she has a torp pod if shes purely built for testing out the ring drive, perhaps its just there to test possible mounting points on the ring and how it affects the warp field, I perhaps I need to shutup and just enjoy the damn ship!

 She has a torp pod 'cause there was a big blank spot on the the top and bottom of the ring. :).

And yeah, as a test bed, I imagine you'd want to see how it worked with various configurations of equipment.

Shik, you're going to be firing torps (and probes!) at something thousands of kilometers away, so I don't see why having the pod a couple hundred feet above the centerline would matter. Likewise the deflector being that far below the CL, since it's deflecting dust hundreds of k ahead. The torp pod is probably no farther off the centerline vertically than a klingon BoP's wingtip guns are laterally.

Oh, it's not that it's off the centerline; that's fine. What struck me was having a weapons array on a drive element that's charged with excited explosive plasma. Target the weapons array, destroy it...& the warp drive is gone now, too...or possibly the entire ship. But again, that's my own brain thinking, & aesthetically it's faboo.

Official crew patch!

Yeah, I know...

The crew patch is amazing!

Really some of the best original and humorous Trek thinking I've seen in a while. Wonderful!
