Very nice work, Forbin. Are the nacelles and the ring a sort of unique conjoined propulsion system, or are they basically separate and the ring only mounts other equipment like the deflector and torpedoes?
There are no nacelles, those are support booms for the ring. I'm figuring the tail booms each have an antimatter reactor powering half the ring, and the ring contains some very flat warp coils.
Ah. Thanks for the clarification. I noticed the lack of warp grills, but initially assumed they were still intended to follow the traditional nacelle structure.
I've got some gold JTGraphics plasma vent grill decals in that notch under the inside halves. That kinda counts.
(btw, I had NO idea what I was going to do in that notch until the very last day. Then I realized it's be a good place for vents, and also found a Gundam greebly to glue down there.)
Whrer is the shuttle bay? What does it look like when a shuttle is on apptoach or departing?
Just tossing out another scene/pose for you. Love the desidn. I have been imaginimg a ringship with an Intrepid Class saucer, so this bash really struck my fancy.
I was angsting over the shuttle bay - I briefly considered doing one of those "top-of-the-saucer" hangar doors. In the end I got lazy and decided to leave it out. This is a test bed, prototype ship made strictly to test the ring drive, so no shuttles. Maybe a production model would have additional hull structure and a hangar.
It's very nice to the the ringship concept visualized in a TMP context and the impulse engines finally sit in the center of the ship's mass beyond a shred of doubt.
And I like the touch of "Probert Continuity", i.e. no habitable space in between these warp ring elements. Beautiful!
