New and Improved POST YOUR PET PICTURES Thread

mine have a little dislike thing going on too. our first is a fixed female named B'Elanna - she was the only cat for eight months then we brought home Worf - an intact male who is completely uninterested in her except getting her place in the windowsill and her place on my pillow at night. Of course it could be because they are klingons . . .

yes - explaining thier names to the vet's staff and cat groomers is an exercise in geekiness but they still take my money . . .

Well, one of mine just had stitches in his tail and had to wear a cone for two weeks. He's just gotten it off, and he's out for blood.

Hey everyone, I had a question for you cat owners, especially with outdoor cats...

This may seem obvious to some of you, but I've never lived in a snowy area, so I was wondering how cats deal with snow. I mean what if the snow is tall, do they freak out when they sink through it? How do they find a place to go to the bathroom if everything's covered in snow?? Is it too cold for them to stay out long, or do they frolic in it freely? I must know how this works!

Initial chock, then curiosity, then a bit of fear (like with all the wetness of rain), then they can play in it -I'm really looking forward to having some snow this year -nothing quite as funny as a cat experiencing snow for the first time :rommie:

Yeah, but will they freeze from the cold; is there a certain temp to bring them in?
(got me curious now)

I don't have any pets, but I have three homeless kitties I have been playing with in the park for a few years now. I discovered "Bunny" (the white one) when she was probably about six months old. She would stick her head out from behind a tree, then run away, same with "Black & White [BW]" (there aptly un-named black and white kitty). Someone named her "Bunny" 'cause they thought, initially, it was a small white rabbit.

I tried to give her love and attention, and food, and about half a year later, she finally started coming around me and letting me pet her. Cut to about three years or so later, and she'll run up to me, let me pet her belly, chin, so forth. I even taught her some cute little meows; appearently the cute whens house cats do, aren't normal for homeless cats -- you got to teach them that or they have to learn from another cat who has a home.

BW loves to be pet, too, but he's more finicky; after some loving', he gets tired of me and goes to do something else.

"Stubs" was angry, used to bite me and scratch me, and skittish, too. Now she runs up to me, starts meowing, needs a minimum of 20 minutes petting to be fully happy, and will even climb in and sit in my lap (like her partner [which a couple old ladies apoted and took him a couple years ago] used to do). Rubs up against me, paws at me, give me love bites (no actual bites like she used to) and plays with me. She knows my reactions and tones, and if she digs her clws in too much or gets to aggressive, acts accordingly from how I react.

I don't have a home, but if I did and the cash, all three of these kitties would so be coming home with me.

SPOCKED has some photos of a cat house (why does that sound so wrong when a dog house doesn't?) he built for his cat in the Are you handy?-thread, afaik the cat is supposed to stay outside all year.

I think cats (depending on how much food they can find) actually can endure all of a winter outdoors; they'll just find a nice cosy shelter somewhere.

Depends on the cat. There's a cat down the street from us that loves the snow, but I've seen others that hate it.

He doesn't use it in the summer at all, and I have to open it up and give it a nice cleaning (and spray) and get the heating pad back in it before he'll adopt it again since last winter. The main purpose was to provide him a safe, warm spot to hang out since we both worked. But Abby works remotely now, so the cat house is essentially moot.
