Never seen TOS scenes...round 3

This thread is conceptually connected to the other current thread regarding redoing TOS' f/x. My inspiration some years ago was "What if TOS had had more time, money and resource?" With my TMP era pics I was inspired by the idea "What if we'd gotten a series after TMP rather than other movies?" And with my Pike era shots I'm inspired by the idea "What if a new series went back and picked up where 'The Cage' left off?"

Of course there are also the simple "What if" shots as well as those simply meant to be humoyrous. :)

You will note that rarely do I try to do something that makes TOS or TMP look like contemporary Trek. In most cases I strive to make my enhancements look mostly "of their era" only with a little added substance and texture. I even add visual noise or grain to most of the finished shots.

Ya know Warped9, as often as we disagree and bitch at each other, I will admit, those are some pretty awesome manips. Well done!

Nice work Warped9, been a fan of your manips since you first started posting them. Cage3 era bein' my favourite era.

i got bored one day and, after seing a manip of Bill Gates as a borg somewhere on the 'net, i got inspired: [image]http://idisk.mac.com/hbkcturnbull/Public/wip/captainstevejobs.jpg[/image]
"Steve Jobs as a Starfleet Captain!"
OK, so it's not quite TOS related (TOS Movie though). but could't think of a better place for it since the other thread in Gen-Trek went away. workin' on more if anybody would love to see them (putting various computer ceo's/legends into trek settings). god, what a nerd I am!

Sorry I haven't gotten back to you Warped9... this is finals week for me and I've been a little busy! The photo-manips of my Enterprise model look FANTASTIC! You've certainly given me some lighting ideas for my "Doomsday Machine" project. Nice stuff!

Shouldn't he be in charge of a crew of Pakleds looking for 'shiny things that make us go.'?

I wanted to see what the cardassians would look like in TOS. Any chances of being able to do that?
Sorry, but I'm not interested. Perhaps someone else may do it, but my perspective has always been doing TOS without the retconning from other shows and movies.

^ IIRC, in DS9 the area of space containing Cardassia, Bajor and Deep Space Nine was presented as being on the far frontier. Quite likely, Cardassians were completely unknown in TOS's time.

More to the point, TOS provides plenty of alien races to work with...and the TOS aliens (Hortas, Metrons, Gorns, Melkots, Tholians, Andorians, etc. etc. etc.) tend to be more interesting than Modern Trek aliens to boot! :)

^^ The gist of it is also that I've never found the Cardassians to be particularly interesting villians despite their appearance. They always impressed me as warmed over TNG style Romulans. then again how many different ways can you fashion alien villians when they are supposed to be the antithesis of the heroes?

Ok Warped9 i had another question. I like your nova-class pre-pike ship. A couple questions about it: first did you get the idea for it from a prelimenary drawing jefferies did for the enterprise 1701, namely this one: http://www.stguardian.to/mixed/predesign/preentdesign04.jpg

and second, would you find if I used it, with some modifications for a personal project? I am attempting to find a class of ship that pre-dates the Constitution by a few years. I originally was going to use this: http://www.calormen.com/Star_Trek/declaration/declaration.htm
as it to is based on an early Jefferies design, but I dont like the Secondary hull above the saucer. When i saw the nova-class ship i very much liked it, and I would like to make a few of my own changes to it so that a ship like the constellation could be part of the nova class before being rebuilt to a connie. Thanks.

^^ Yes, I did get the idea from the early MJ sketch. I used it as a conceptual basis and then picked away at it for hours and hours until I got something I liked. Even now I look at it and see some things I could do differently.

Sure, you may use it if you wish.

Essentially I darkened the image somewhat and heightened the contrast between light and shadow. When the ship is near a star or planet or nebula or some other light source then you can somewhat get away with the ship being more brightly lighted. But in the depth of space then it should appear darker. Mind you you're still invoking creative licence because in reality the ship would be practically black and only discernible by windows, running lights and engine domes.

I generally like howTOS depicted its ships yet from a more objective viewpoint sometimes they were too brightly lighted. Of course this was at a time when '60s television sets didn't have near the resolution and picture quality of today's televisions and thus usually added more than appropriate light to ensure the object was clearly discernible onscreen.

Here is something I've always wanted to see.
To some extent this was a quick and crude effort. At some point I'll redo it and make a cleaner image. I must say I do like the concept though.

It's been awhile since I've visited this thread. These photomanips were a helluva lot of fun. I gotta get around to doing some more sometime.
