Never seen TOS scenes...round 3

I'm going to try to tackle an M'ress image tomorrow. But the more I think about I find myself dwelling on a larger issue. I think it would be interesting but rather tough to see a convincing Caitian in live-action. My reasoning is this: in TAS you can't help but notice two distinct things about M'ress, one good and one not. The not so good feature is M'Ress' apparently paw-like hands. I'm sorry, but such an evolved being would have to have dextrous limbs and manipulative digits to operate ship's controls in a deft manner. The interesting good feature was that M'ress wasn't just a humanoid with a cat-like head because she had recognizably feline legs--good thinking on the artists' part. This alone makes M'ress more alien. but I admit it would be interesting to see how this could be depicted in live-action. It's conceiveable that a "live-action" Caitian would actually have to be a work of good cgi.

This image is to show the uniform transitions from TOS to TMP. The uniforms are just being introduced into the fleet. This manip is also being used in an illustrated fnfic im working on aswel, so stay tuned. Warped - Ive started on this manip from scratch, you may remember it from a while ago, i wasnt too happy with it so i started over. still not sure though...

Nice work, Classic Fan! It was nice to see a Scotty image today. Anyone have any other manipulations with our favorite engineer?

Yeah, that was a huge coincidence. Ironic that i should just finnish the new manip and Jimmy passes the next day.

Truly sad :(

I can go for Sam Neill as 1st Captain

Any what-if pic hanging around of "Scotty's Dream"? Dressed in a gold shirt with captain's stripes, seated in the center seat in command the ship he loves! Now that Scotty and 1701 are reunited. It would be a nice tribute pic.

Oddly I never could imagine Scotty as Captain, because he'd never really have time for his beloved engines.

Who else to play the first Captain of the Enterprise?

Ok, this is surreal.

I think me and you had a conversation a few months back, Warped, about having Sam Neil playing Capt April in a prequal.
I think we tossed around a few pics via PMs aswel.

Anyway, taking images from various sources, i started on an April fanfic using image sampling of Sam for the April part about a year and it is near completion.

Really wierd you should bring that up.

Having drawn M'Ress a fair bit, I can tell you that as she appears in TAS her skull is pretty much human-shaped but with a smaller chin and larger, angled eyes. Standard appliance make-up might do the trick, if you can find an actress with slightly large eyes and a small nose and jaw over which a feline nose and muzzle could be placed. Instead of using the actress's own eyes, another way to go would be to have large artifical eyes as part of the makeup onto which pupils could be CG'ed.

The design of the hands would need to be modified to give them longer fingers and an opposable thumb. They're not a big problem.

I've seen special effects costume rigs that allow a human to have a sort of digitigrade, Harryhausen "goat leg" effect, but they're usually heavy, make the person really tall, and produce an awkward gait. They're mostly used for demons, dinosaurs, and such. But if the actress is short and slim, adding a half a foot or more to her height with the leg rig might bring her up to the size of other performers.

Edit: What makes Tyra Banks is this pic resemble M'Ress is mostly the eyes and the hair.

There are definite similarities! :) Plus, M'Ress was (I think) always written to be a bit sultury, which Tyra Banks definitely aims for.

Back to the beginning? My "Never seen TOS scenes" photomanips essentially began with my reimagining of scenes from WNMHGB. And so I'm revisting that. Here is the Enterprise careening into the galactic energy barrier. More to follow...

What isn't evident here is that the ship is the 1st pilot version although here you can't make out the aft nacelle caps. I've grown to dislike the "lotsa drilled holes" look of the WNMHGB version as well as that lighted rectangle on the front of the bridge dome. Or maybe it's just me.

Here's a treat for some who may never have seen them. Many of these are photo restorations as posted by Capt. Mac on the SpaceStation K7 forums.

Hmmm...
Kirk must do one of two things:
1. Find a piece of green rock floating around in space...OR...
2. Find a nocturnal human who dresses as a bat, for he's the only one to ever beat this...this new nemesis
:guffaw:

Okay, this isn't revolutionary. BUT it is my first screencap as done by me. :D

I clipped a shot of the 3ft. filming miniature and added some lights. To the discerning eye you can tell this is the 3footer by the distinctive lower saucer section. My backstory is that this is the Enterprise early in its career during the April era.

There have been some changes around here. My trusted G3 iMac gave up on me last weekend. Considering the cost of getting it fixed I opted for a new eMac G4 ComboDrive with 1.42ghz, 80GB hard drive and 1G RAM. Add in the 17in. flatscreen and I've a machine about three times better than what I had, and I was happy with that.

Here's my prefered take on the WNMHGB scene. The energy barrier creates an optical illusion of always appearing to be directly in front of your line of sight. Effectively much of it is optically invisible or practically so except directly in front of your p.o.v.

Why do I think we just passed from the silver age of creative Star Trek scenes into the golden age?

Warped9, I think you should take two weeks of vacation from work starting right now. :D
