Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice...

Re: Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice.

It's been awhile, but here's another. An imagined scene from "Errand Of Mercy" as the E returns to face the Klingon fleet over Organia...

In some ways I'm not that happy with this. I feel the ships are not really oriented properly and also that the enemy ships are just too large and too close to be truly credible. However any farther away and they'd be indiscernible, so it's really no win.

Re: Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice.

I think it looks fine (and very good, btw).

It reminds me a bit of Way of the Warrior.

Re: Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice.

Sort of reminds me of the battle scenes in ST:TWOK.
You know where they sacrifice reality for a sequence that looks good ;)

Thats kinda what I was thinking. It actually looks rather like something we might have seen in TAS as well. I might try again, but I'm not sure I can make much difference.

they sacrificed reality the first time anyone beamed anywhere ;)

I really like this one - sure you had to compromise "realism" a bit - but it was done with style and that's what made "the only series" good...

Re: Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice.

Ok, remember the recreation rooms, which were a re-dress of the briefing room?

Well, another grab from WNMHGB, i thought id make a proper rec-deck, instead of the one that resembled a dentists waiting room.

Now heres the original image...

And heres the altered version...

Now, the window is not perfect, im still trying to perfect it. The only reason i chose to put the window in was the ship seemed cramped, so when walking around the ship, it feels a lot more open.
Even looking at that picture makes the Enterprise feel more colossal.

This rec room is on two levels and has walkways and veranders. Also seating areas, with tables with viewers and for playing chess. - Thats a hint to my next manip. ;)

Ive also changed the colour of the top of the bulkhead to a more subtle colour, and again, got shot of the harsh red that was in your face.

EDIT: Just incase you are all wondering, this is my template for the main rec room on the Enterprise...

Re: Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice.

^ Very cool.

I know many traditionalists are against the idea of redoing the FX of TOS, but seeing some of these redos, adding some background changes and new spaces scenes, while still keeping the original stage shots, I think they're awesome and would probably make some of the little kids of today who grew up with Voyager and Enterprise, appreciate the Original a bit more.

To at least try it out on The Cage or WNMHGB and see the response, would be well worth it.

Re: Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice.

Dont get me wrong, im a die hard TOS fan, its in my username.

But, what we are doing is honouring TOS, not raping it.
Berman if he were to be given TOS would rape everything and change everything he could.

The way im doing it is just making things look as they should, and people will look at it and say..

"That must have been there all along."

Re: Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice.

Here's another imagined scene from "Errand Of Mercy" as the E leads the Federation fleet back to Organia. I've tried to use some diversity for variety of ships. There's one other TOS era equivalent version of the Constitution-class in there as well as 2nd pilot versions. I've also included some manipulated versions of the destroyer/scout class, although little of this may be readily apparent.

You guys have been busy while I've been away! Great work here :)

I gave this a shot see if it's more like what you wanted.

Re: Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice.

the picture with the new recdeck is increadible! I like it very much... maybe the reason we did not see it, was that the window in the hall could be closed in case of emergency (who would like to remove the leaves if the ship is shaken in combat :D )

Re: Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice.

I like your version better, Reno, that window in the corner of the wall made it look like kirk and spock were in some building on a planet rather than a ship.

Re: Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice.

The Enterprise warily approaches the mortally crippled Romulan ship in "Balance Of Terror."

Although it may not be obvious the Romulan ship has had her port nacelle and wing wrecked--a little added detail even if it isn't apparent, but I just like to know it's there...

Woooah, too fast, slow down, people.

I like that one, but to be honest, im still editing.
The one i posted was a sort of test, it only took me around 20 minutes, and i was really tired aswell.

My next one will be better, its just that initial test that looked a little off.

Im still editing my original.

To convey the fact that Enterprise has returned with help to drive out the Klingons, you should show at least one other Federation ship, perhaps below and to the right of Enterprise.

Re: Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice.

I neglected to mention in my earlier post regarding the E approaching the damaged BoP that unlike my other photomanipulations the E in this one was originally rendered by Kirkunit. He generously allowed me the use of some of his cgi renders which I then retouched to make it look more TOS originated.

You know, I'm compelled to say that this pic reinforces a thought I've long held. I was able to use one of Kirkunit's cgi renders for this image and after being retouched to make it look a little more TOS style I think the result is something that looks far more flattering and authentic than what was done in DS9's "Trials And Tribble-ations."

And if anyone has any criticisms regarding detail than I'd suggest they are not very familiar with Kirkunit's excellent work. His cgi renders are actually very detailed, but thery are also appropriately subtle and more realistic so that such fine detail is visible only when you'd get really up-close to the vessel.

I have his generous permission to use a few more of his excellent renders and so we shall see later what we shall see.

Re: Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice.

Just for fun, make Spock's shirt blue in this shot.
