Re: Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice.

well, if you ask me McCoy was aboard, but he was not Chief Surgeon by that time  great work again!

Re: Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice.

Niiiiice.

The way i invisioned McCoy was that he was the best of the best and Kirk wanted him aboard.

I see McCoy as Second Chief Medical officer at Starfleet Command/Acadamy at the Hippocrates School of Medicine.
This is becuase he is referenced in my huge ever lasting fanfic. ;)

Re: Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice.

Ok, Captain Picard had a picture of his ship in his quarters, then, suddenly, pictures of ships disapeared from the walls of the captains quarters.

So, Kirk never had a picture on his ship of a single Enterprise until TMP, so i figure, as he loved the Enterprise so much, he had a mural on his cabin wall of his beloved ship...

Behold, the newly decorated cabin of Captain James T. Kirk...

Re: Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice.

Ummmm, that looks like he's on a diff. ship and that's a window in the background to me. Screw around with the photo of the E to make it less, photo-ish.

Re: Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice.

^^ Although I might have done it differently that is very nice. I've been thinking along those lines for awhile now, but I hadn't yet come up with something to convey my basic idea yet. It really is a shame that TOS didn't have just a little more time and money to try some ideas. I envisioned that one of a cabin's walls could actually be an oversiazed screen perhaps that could depict varying images from nature to space scenes to whatever an occupant could wish to alleviate any lingering sense of enclosure or claustrophobia. If I were producing my own sf tv series then that is something I'd surely try, and today we could have moving scenes on the wall.

Lol, just like the 'Scenery Channel' in Back to the Future part II. :D

Im working on a different version to take the sharpness out of the picture.
This was just a test.

Be right back with a newer image.

Ok, its now an oil painting, it looks a little over done, but im still tinkering with the settings.

Re: Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice.

Thanks for the link, but im not using photoshop, im using MGI Photosuite 9.

Its similar to photoshop, but im still playing around with the image.

Re: Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice.

Okay, this isn't the screen idea, but simply having more stuff on the walls. The Enterprise image actually began as the original 11ft. filming miniature on its shipping cradle. I then cut it out and painted it as well as added lights and windows and then imposed it on a starscape. Just now I added a sandstone underpainting effect to it and then put it on Kirk's cabin wall as a painting. The sailing ship on the other wall ties in a little more to "all I ask is a tall ship" idea. :)

Re: Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice.

Ok, with photoshop, you have the luxury of making it appear as a picture, i only have a limited blending interface, i can a lot better than my initial attempts, in actual fact, im attempting a better looking picture on that wall an blending it.

Ill get back to you tomorrow on this as i really need sleep.

By the way, what does my oil paint style version look like to you, Wapred, cos im at a loss if i like it or not.

Re: Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice.

^^ Okay in all candor as a supposed painting it is too imposing in the image and is not blending in as if it really belongs there. I myself am still on the learning curve (I'm using Photoshop 7). This exercise is very tricky in learning how to make something look as if it belongs and has naturally been there all along. It requires having an eye for blurring something slightly out-of-focus like a real object in the background as well as distorting an object to some extent to give the real sense you're seeing it at an angle in perpective. I also added shadow on the wall to reinforce the idea that there is a three dimensional object there casting a shadow on the wall. I also played with the brightness to try and reach a natural effect in line with what else is already in the image.

I am by no means an expert in this and I've been pretty well teaching myself as I go. But I have been drawing for many years and I've always thought in three dimensional terms when doing so and I've tried to apply that to my photo manipulation efforts.

:)

You know you could add the NX-01 to that board. ;)

That is something I would like to see them do in a DVD release to make everything fit perfectly. :D

Re: Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice.

^^ Well you'll never see it in any of my threads. ;)

However to be more authentic if I add any such images to a wall in the future I'll look for some more genuine art of that time period, perhaps something by Chesley Bonestell.

Re: Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice.

Here's a better effort. Somewhere during mid-season of Star Trek's hypothetically redone 2nd season newly arrived aboard Lt. Cmdr. Leonard McCoy is assigned as Chief Medical Officer replacing retiring Dr. Mark Piper. :)

Re: Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice.

^ Very nice, Warped. I think the first one is my favourite of the two. :)

Re: Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice.

Ok, heres what i have got after an hour of editing, well, ive recreated the entire image from scratch.

Ok, in this image i have taken all of the background, and some of the foreground, and made it all out of focus; Kirks shaddows and the sculpure are out of focus, as is the glass, all of the table and its contents and that gray box thing on the left.

Now, i have also made the picture out of focus and have attempted to back light it by adding a fog effect and changing the light intensity, the white is around the edges is the light source. I just figured a backlit picture in his quarters would be more effective, i was inspired by cinema posters ;). The picture and its light frame are out of focus, as is the corner and the edge.

For a comparison, as its not all that clear when seen as a stand alone edit. If that made sense to anyone, then i admire you. :D

The Original Image...

The new 'Out of Focus' version. The only problem with this i had was Kirks right arm and uniform top, every time i cleaned up the edges, it looked odd. So thats why it looks a little sharp.

Re: Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice.

I think the main problem is that you're making the picture of the Enterprise too damn big.

Make it about half the size it is now, and I think you'll have a more believeable background piece.

Re: Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice.

^^ I have to agree if what you're trying to do is depict an image like a painting on the wall. If it supposed to be a screen generated image well then I think you need perspective to it as well as a less than familiar shot of the ship.

Here's another of mine I played with. The new Captain with one of his Yeoman's. Kirk looks much better without greasy stuff in his hair. :D
