Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice...

Holy crap! Is that my shuttle? I honestly never would have thought so had you not said something. Looks mighty real, good job.

good source material works wonders. :)

Two things:

First I never did say how much I like that image. I don't suppose you have one at 1280 pixels wide because I'd love to make a desktop image out of it.

And secondly after the day of work I've had that really lifts my spirits. Thanks. I am curious though about the source of the image. I don't recall rendering the decaled shuttle at the angle and in the animations the color of the sun on the bare metal hull make it an orange color (but I guess that easily fixed).

"Spock says this is an historic occasion"

What if the original Enterprise had made it to the movies.

considering the state of the screencaps used, it blew up quite well. i did a couple of minor tweaks to the image. nothing you'd probably notice but i knew they were there. well 'were' there ;)

drydock 1280 wide

with regards to your shuttle you did an image of three shuttles together in flight, with the newton lagging behind.

i used the newton.

in photoshop this is what i did: magic wand to cut it out of the original picture. rescaled it to fit the proportions of my scene. rendered a light effect with five spots straight down on it. most people don't realize that the lighting effects in photoshop can be adjusted so that the light either hits the image as though it were a picture, or as though it were a real object (it's a cheat under edit called fade and there's a list of options). next i adjusted the color balance and brought up the blue. i then added a 5 percent motion blur at the angle in which the shuttle was moving. finally i added a 1 percent monochrome noise over the top.

sounds complicated but all in all it was about 5 minutes work.

Re: A TOS/TMP Uniforrm Crossover Stunt.

Thanks for the image!

Ah yes, the three shuttle flight, that one had slipped my mind when I was trying to figure out which image you had used. Thanks for the Photoshop information (especially the lighting trick!).

is that a toy enterprise or did you draw it?

Re: A TOS/TMP Uniforrm Crossover Stunt.

It is one of the Playmate models. Took a picture, cut it out and added a background. Too bad I only have playmate photo editing skills

I added some of the windows and lights, but wasn't able to get it shaded more gray. Also, the nacelle caps are orange, but the in the pictures they come out red.

nothing wrong with photgraphing a model. that's trek for the first 35 years! :D

dude, gimme a few days, and I can have a similer one made

Never seen TOS scenes...

I dug this up from several years ago. Based losely on one of Matt Jeffries conceptual sketches for the E this was an early take of mine on a pre 1701 starship tentaively known as the Nova-class...

Is that a side-launch shuttlebay on the secondary hull?

Re: Never seen TOS scenes...

^^ Hmm...could be. :)

Actually I think this effort looks rather simplistic now, but I still rather like the basic concept.

What an early Roddenberriesque response! :D "Let the fan use his imagination." Wish he had kept that policy. Fans probably would not have as many squabbles as we now have over his creation.

Hey, from one person who can't draw. I'm still impressed Warped9! I do remember that MJ sketch from The Making of Star Trek. You brought out more detail. Color it...CGI-it ...

Nice.

Personally, I'd lengthen the support pylons a tad to get the nacelles a bit further out from the hull, but that's about it.

Re: Never seen TOS scenes...

There is something I really like about this design. I'm not sure what it is, but it appeals to me as a neat take on a typical arrangement of those parts. That's tough to achieve.

Re: Never seen TOS scenes...

I was beasically trying to project back a generation or two in design and what better place to start than MJ's sketches to see if there was anything usable. I essentially tucked the secondary hull up closer to the saucer and affixed the nacelles to the swollen engineering/impulse section rather than just atop the saucer. Periodically I still doodle ideas for an even earlier generation using the basic Daedalus configuration yet I've still to come up with something that I feel works aesthetically to my taste.

My own little backstory notion was that Pike or April may have commanded such a vessel before the E came along. This may even have been pre transporter tech and hence the p/s bay doors. I even wrote a short story called The Forgotten Merchants where I had this design in mind as the derelict USS Atlantis NCC-1376, sister ship of the old once mentioned ship Kirk trained on the USS Republic NCC-1371.

You have this story, with such an interesting back cover summary, online somewhere?

Re: Never seen TOS scenes...

^^ I used to have it in the fanfic forum, but I can't find it there anymore.

Re: Never seen TOS scenes...

Hey, I really like that. I don't normally care for (and please forgive this next word) "re-shuffled" arrangements but that one works. Mind if I model it sometime?

Now here's an image I did about 5 years ago when I got my first digital camera (sub 1 megapixel -- primative!!!). And I'll be severely disappointed if no-one recognizes it. Beyond the obvious of course.

4MM, I know that you consider this merged pic as "primitive", but it took me a couple of minutes to realize it. But then again, I have no artistic talent...just artistic appreciation. ;)

Does this posting mean that you will be modeling the second most famous starship class in the history of TOS? :D

Re: Never seen TOS scenes...

Here's another from the dusty file cabinet. An early take on a scout class taking FJ's basic concept and reworking it I'm not that keen on it anymore although there are aspects I like such as the hangar deck atop the saucer. But this was years before I saw Masao's Predator-class which I rather like better.
