Netflix's Lost in Space Season 3

It feels like forever since season 2. And Will looks and sounds like he's aged quite a few years in that time. I'm curious how they will incorporate the gap into the story considering the way season 2 ended feels like it needs an immediate follow-up.

Also, no sign of Dr. Smith/June Harris so presumably they're waiting to reveal if and how she survived.

I will have to watch a recap of season 2 because i nearly forgot everything that happened there, it's been that long but i remember i liked it.

I am a bit surprised that it's the final season, was this planned all along? In anyway better to close up the entire story in a decent way than to drag it out needlessly. Closure is a nice thing.

^ It does feel like forever! Been anxiously awaiting the 3rd season. The first two seasons were so refreshing in terms of sci-fi. And Will certainly looks to have had a growth spurt. From the tone and look of the trailer, it does seem to indicate they might be taking the gap into account.

As for it being the final season, from what I remember, the showrunners originally wanted it to be longer, and had even written out plans up to at least a 6th season. They had big plans, but Netflix made them cut it down to 3 seasons. Then the showrunners backtracked and said 3 seasons was always the plan, envisioning it as a trilogy.

I believe the creators said that three seasons was always the plan. And if they made another season, the kids would probably all be in their twenties by the time it aired.

Wow that's some Walt from "Lost" growth on Will Robinson.Since Season 2 ended on a cliffhanger that needs to be resolved I wonder if they'll do some de-aging on him before jumping forward a couple of years.

Maybe they shot some scenes for this season back when they did season 2.

Here's the official synopsis:

In the third and final season of Lost in Space, the stakes are higher than ever and the Robinson family’s survival instincts will be put to the ultimate test. After a year of being trapped on a mysterious planet, Judy, Penny, Will and the Robot must lead the 97 young Colonists in a harrowing evacuation—but not before secrets are unearthed that will change their lives forever. Meanwhile John and Maureen—with Don at their side—must battle overwhelming odds as they try to reunite with their kids. The Robinsons will have to grapple with the emotional challenge of not just being lost—but being separated from the ones they love... as they face the greatest alien threat yet.

From what I read on SYFY wire, it's only a time jump of a year, so yeah, perhaps puberty works differently in space? :D

A year in the show, two years in real life -- not that bad. Some people mature faster than others, after all.

It's nice to finally get some new info on the season. I have to admit, the kid who plays Will looks different now, I thought maybe they recast him.

I haven't watched anything of this Lost in Space. It's probably something I will binge in future. Since this is a final season I'll probably binge it sooner rather than later.

You should, it's a great show. I'd say it's even truer to the spirit of Star Trek than most actual Trek stories.

I read a while back that the budget was 10 million per episode.

I'm not surprised by that one bit. Sci-fi has always been expensive, but this seemed taken to the next level. Almost feels more detailed than a movie would have been.

Agreed. on top of its great design, it's got some good writing as well. I'm surprised it hasn't been more popular. Well, maybe I shouldn't be surprised given Netflix tends to leave things to sink or swim. That's too bad as this has been one of the more enjoyable sci-fi in recent years.

I've also wondered why this series has fallen through the cracks. While I do have quibbles, it's a very well made series. I chalk it up to Netflix just putting it all out at once. So the most interested can just binge it in a weekend, instead of how competitor series like the new Treks, Mandalorian, The Orville, etc. put out an episode a week, which can get more attention and discussion week to week.

With there being so much content, and new content, on Netflix as well, it's like they don't have to, or wish to, spend much time promoting even their smash hit series, because they got so much more coming out the next week or so.

I feel like this happens with a lot of Netflix stuff. You get the occasional breakout hit that everyone talks about like Stranger Things and more recently Squid Game, but so much of their stuff tends to fall off the radar a week after release.

Does anyone talk about anything much a couple weeks after release? Even the actual news cycle moves on from major events after a couple of weeks.

I've seen suggestions that Netflix should move to weekly release instead of "dropping" whole (or half) seasons at once, and I think that might be a good idea.
