Netflix has announced that it will be adapting The Chronicles of Narnia into a TV series and films!
I'm loving the long overdue trend of adapting richly complex book series into shows, even if they had turns as films with varying success. Narnia is quickly following the footsteps of His Dark Materials and Lord of the Rings (although the latter is different in nature) and I sure hope all three adaptations are wildly successful, creatively and financially.
I can only hope that Earthsea will also get the same treatment because the Sci-Fi Channel mini-series was an abomination that even Ursula K. Le Guin publicly denounced.
“It is wonderful to know that folks from all over are looking forward to seeing more of Narnia, and that the advances in production and distribution technology have made it possible for us to make Narnian adventures come to life all over the world,” said Douglas Gresham, stepson of C.S. Lewis, in a statement released by Netflix. “Netflix seems to be the very best medium with which to achieve this aim, and I am looking forward to working with them towards this goal.”
