Net Flex is fantastic!

I am of a mixed feeling about Netflix, personally. I do enjoy the streaming but their library of movies for that medium is limited. Many of their videos are DVD/BRD only, which is why I keep that service. Now, back in the day, I was paying for delivery and the streaming was free. But, since they instituted separate costs for both services, I feel I'm being double-tap charged and penalized for their lack of product on the streaming end. I am, however, extremely glad that they didn't go through with splitting up the two services into two separate companies with two separate accounts, bills, etc. That would likely have been enough for me to ditch the whole thing. I just hope that, one day, their entire inventory will be available for streaming so I can turn off the deliveries for good.

Instant Streaming is great for TV shows, but yeah, their movie selection is still somewhat limited. Luckily, I don't really watch movies anyway, so Netflix is perfect for me. Any movie I really want to see I have either a) already seen in the theater or b) purchased on Blu-Ray.

Some of my best accidental discoveries are ones I've made on Netflix. The Secret of Kells and Ghost in the Shell are both amazing animated features, and I also finally got the opportunity to watch Firefly and Clerks which I have been wanting to for ages.

I'm in Canada so the Netflix service is streaming only. I do have access to the Canadian and American Netflix streaming service however. It's interesting to see what is available up here as compared to the US. The US has all the Star Trek series streaming, Canada has the Star Trek movies, but no series. We also have movies like Thor, and Captain America. It's nice to have "access" to both services.

^^^ IIRC, the movies were available for streaming in the US up till the end of last year. Then they went away. Not quite sure why this is. If storage capacity is an issue, they should buy more bloody hard drives with the extra money they're charging us for the streaming service. I have no problems when fees and charges result in proper service upgrades, but when costs increase and service remains either static or decreases, that's when I start having issues.

It all comes down to licensing and broadcast rights. That's why titles disappear from the service. Those rights vary from country to country. That's why in Canada movies like Iron Man 1 and 2, Thor and Captain America are available, but in the US they aren't. Star Trek '09 was available here up until a couple months ago, then it just disappeared.

and never stopped wearing Chuck Taylors.

Chucks are timeless. I wear them with suits.
There was a time, after the Munich and then Montreal Olympics, just as the shoes wars were heating up that you wouldn't be caught dead in them. New technology cut them off of the basketball courts and they were not yet a fashion statement. You only wore them if the parents would not get the Nikes

The internet makes cable obsolete. I cut the cord over two years ago and I'm quite happy about it. Netflix is pretty awesome. I tried Hulu Plus for a bit (but dropped it... why am I paying for commercials?!).

I wish they had sites where you can stream sports and not have to worry about Blackouts. I mean I get the NHL and MLB packages, but I still have to deal with Blackouts all the time so that's where Cable comes in. If they wanted me to pay extra for no blackouts, I would give up cable too and go with those and probably go back to Netflix. Until then, Cable is still "sports" friendly.
