Nero, Vulcan, Romulus

Phoenix219

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
I know it should be common sense, but I just had a thought, or perspective, or something.....

Has anyone acknowledged the fact that Nero literally blew up his own race's BIRTH WORLD??

For revenge, wouldn't *taking back their Home Planet* have been MUCH more satisfying then DESTROYING it? Its not like Romulus *still* isn't going to blow up in the new timeline.....

Yeah, no. He's a badguy. He destroys planets. End of story.

Nero was severely unhinged throughout the movie, his actions were from a place of rage and pain, not any form of rationality.

Yep, an enraged and irrational Romulan from the future, can't get more dangerous than that in the TOS era.

Nero was also a man drastically short on means. He wasn't a warrior, he didn't have a warship, he didn't have an army. Destruction was the only thing he could hope to achieve, and even there not for long before he would be defeated. So making his first and quite possibly only blow count made very good sense psychologically.

As for Vulcan being the "birthworld" - we don't know whether that's true in any sense. Some episodes hint at Vulcan prehistory having been majorly affected by aliens; perhaps they were a transplanted species to begin with. Or perhaps the lush Romulus gave birth to the species, and only the arid colony Vulcan engaged in the Surakist rebellion and severed ties with the motherworld?

Anyway, from Nero's point of view, Vulcan had done so much evil (banishing the Romulans in the first place, now refusing to save their homeworld) that a bit of matricide would certainly be in order. Yes hard feelings - it's personal, not business...
