i think that's the problem with most trekkies... they still consider this timeline to be the "Exact" duplicate of the original.

Nero and Future Guy seem to have some similar goals: stop Earth/the Federation and make Romulus a stronger, more secure power in the past. Only Future Guy used lackeys in the past whereas Nero did his own dirty work.

Which is probably another debate, since it would invalidate the reset button time travel stories on television Trek (Gabriel Bell, specifically, where somehow people get caught in a "time bubble" and don't notice changes to the timeline), not to mention First Contact.

I also find it sort of cute that he is both irrational enough to be insane and want revenge but rational enough to realize that he is somehow in an alternate timeline and that his actions would have no bearing on the future.

All of these problems, of course, would have been solved if JJ had the balls to just reboot the damn franchise instead of do this half measure time travel stuff. But oh well.
