Nero is dumb/How does "revenge" save Romulus? [Spoilers]

Re: Nero is dumb (spoilerific)

Where the hell is Captain Braxton, or Crewman Daniels, they have temporal sensors, maybe at least one of them would have noticed the planet Vulcan, and most of their Vulcan colleagues dropped off the sensors?

Different timeline... are you sure that the temporal police will even be created in this one... besides... now this is their history and they will refuse to change it...

But the "old" timeline still has their temporal cops. Come to think of it, this would put the temporal cops of one timeline trying to save Vulcan at odds with their counterparts in the other timeline trying to preserve that timeline by letting Vulcan die. Another Temporal Cold War, anyone?

The temporal stuff was just stupid. Almost as dumb as Section 31.

I see them as focused on known temproal powers engaged in the Cold War. It'd be relatively easy to miss a "terrorist" like Nero who shouldn't have time travel capabilities.

Re: Nero is dumb (spoilerific)

Seriously, why doesn't he just wait and save Romulus.
Apparently the writers just wanted a planet-killing villian. Considering the sloppiness of the script, the means and motivations were of no particular consequence.

Re: Nero is dumb (spoilerific)

Nero wasn't the greatest Trek villain ever, he failed to be a Khan just like Shinzon did. Though they missed to boat on the villain and indeed the general story, they hit all of their marks on the main characters and the actors that portray them, so I'm fairly happy.

Re: Nero is dumb (spoilerific)

I felt like Eric Bana's performance as Nero was at times similar to Tom Hardy's Shinzon in Nemesis.... Anyone felt the same way too?

The hell....

No, not even close. Bana may not have played the best villain but Hardy can only dream of being similar to him

Is Nero The Stupidest Romulan Ever?

I don't know if it's already been mentioned but I havn't seen it.

Anyway, Nero is pissed Romulus is destroyed correct? he's so pissed at this that he's willing to wipe out Vulcan and make Spock watch correct?

Erm hello Nero, you are hundreds of years in the past, you have an advanced space craft and have with you the Red Matter capable of creating a blackhole so why on Earth are you not going to the star that destroyed Romulus in the future and in this era sucking it into a blackhole? thus saving Romulus?

Romulus will be saved and therefore you no longer have anything to be pissed about.

So does he do the obvious and suck the Romulus destroying star into a blackhole? nope, he goes and destroys Vulcan. Wow such a smart clever Romulan.

Re: Is Nero The Stupidest Romulan Ever?

I think he cared more about his dead wife and daughter.

Re: Is Nero The Stupidest Romulan Ever?

Time travel doesn't work like that in Star Trek. If he destroyed the star, then he would never have gone back in time in the first place and so the star would be back cause he never went back in the first place due to destroying it in the past. See the trouble?

Re: Is Nero The Stupidest Romulan Ever?

I think Nero was very appropriate for this film. After all, his namesake went down in infamy for playing the lyre while Rome burned.

Re: Is Nero The Stupidest Romulan Ever?

You know he had a whole century to take care of it and just wanted to have some revenge first.

Time Travel in Trek doesn't work that way, you should know that. The timeline has already changed. :wtf:

Who would no longer be dead if he destroyed the Star in the past.

Doesn't matter though. His wife and daughter are already dead and will continue to be dead for the rest of his life. The time travel that Star Trek uses does not effect event's in the future of the prime timeline. It doesn't matter what Nero does because it's a completely different universe. So pretty much Nero may be born again in this timeline, in the future, but that doesn't mean he will become the Nero that we know.

Besides, was it ever explained if the Hobus star was the star Romulus orbited? Because if that is the case, then Romulus is screwed anyway. It if the star is sucked into the black hole, Romulus is screwed, and if they do not destroy the star, the supernova will destroy Romulus anyway.

No, it is not the Romulus Star.

Ah okay, I didn't read Countdown, so I was not sure.
