Nero is dumb/How does "revenge" save Romulus? [Spoilers]

satchelmouth

Seriously, why doesn't he just wait and save Romulus. Oh I know he has a desire to destroy the federation and whatnot, but that would only serve to further endanger Romulus when you really think about it, especially from, say, the Dominion, or the Borg, who lets face it, will eventally find their way to the Alpha Qudrant.

So to reiterate, Nero is dumb.

Re: Nero is dumb (spoilerific)

How can he wait? He's 130 years in the past, I doubt he would live that long, heh.

I suppose one thing he could have done was go to Romulus now, in the past, and try to convince them that in the future the sun will go supernova, so prepare. Of course, then we would have no movie.

Re: Nero is dumb (spoilerific)

Well, he could've just gone to the Hobus star and used the red matter on it, even if there was no sign of the supernova yet.

The thing for Nero is that he lost his wife and child. Even if he were to save Romulus, he (personally) wouldn't get them back, although the Nero of this timeline would.

Re: Nero is dumb (spoilerific)

He was just a miner ya know, the 'farmboy' of Romulans

Re: Nero is dumb (spoilerific)

MvRojo pretty much hit it. These aren't noble Starfleet officers, or even noble Romulans. They're basically just Romulan working schmucks. They could save Romulus for other people, but it would still be gone for them. So to their minds, what's the point?

Re: Nero is dumb (spoilerific)

Honestly? how do we know he didn't? In fact, I'll bet the first thing he did after picking up Spock was to go red matter the hell out of Hobus. We just didn't see it.

Re: Nero is dumb (spoilerific)

I don't know if Nero is dumb but he is certainly understandably not rational which may have the same effect.

He's a hard working miner that saw his beloved child, his beloved wife and his beloved planet destroyed while Romulan and Vulcan politicians refused to act swiftly.
He's thrown back in time and if all that is not enough to make you lose your marbles he spends a few years on vacation in a Klingon prison aka Rura Penthe.

I say all that could screw up your thinking processes and priorities a bit.Plus as others have said he may have warned the 23rd century Romulans off screen or could have taken care of the Hobus system sun.

Re: Nero is dumb (spoilerific)

Where the hell is Captain Braxton, or Crewman Daniels, they have temporal sensors, maybe at least one of them would have noticed the planet Vulcan, and most of their Vulcan colleagues dropped off the sensors?

Re: Nero is dumb (spoilerific)

Well said, I agree: Nero's not a soldier, just someone who went through some horrible emotional traumas and ended up losing it. Maybe he did prevent the supernova after all, too.

I think that for someone who had nothing to do with the military, he did very well, and his ship was cool beyond belief. Besides, he's cute.

Re: Nero is dumb (spoilerific)

I don't really like any of the ST villains in the movies outside of Khan and the Probe in IV.

Different timeline... are you sure that the temporal police will even be created in this one... besides... now this is their history and they will refuse to change it...

item two... he is dumb... now there is NO stopping that supernova romulus and remus are both now literally TOAST.

That last sentence has go to be the dumbest comment ever! Then we would have A DIFFERENT MOVIE - about something else, perhaps one which doesn't include destroying 40 years of lore.

Actually, the dumbest comment ever is your last sentence about the destruction of 40 years of lore.

it's now a different reality.... from one of the different multiverse that you saw in that worf episode that you noticed over 250,000 different enterprises....

pick one and think it's this universe....

O... and is tuvok toast....
