Nemesis Question

...
What I don't get is why Worf, of all people, would drink that stuff in the first place. I'd think he'd only drink Romulan bloodwine, in the hopes that it was made of the blood of Romulan babies. To Worf, the only good Romulan is a dead one - why would he ever endorse their products?

Timo Saloniemi

It's been that way thruout history. British drinking wine from France when they hated the French or Colonists drinking Scotch during the Rev War etc. Just because you don't care for a culture doesn't mean you don't appreciate the things it may offer.
OR....
Worf has mellowed a bit in his "old age" & his relationship with Jadzia helpped a little toward that end perhaps.

LOL! Riker's bachelor party...rated NC-17. "Debbie Does Vulcan!"
Yeah, but according to Season 1, Riker's idea of porn is watching two scantily-clad holochicks play harps, so NC-17 just isn't what it used to be.

Personally, I think that a) We all know that Stuart Baird didn't actually care about Trek so sweating the color of Romulan ale is going to bring us more pain than joy; b) It could have been the bachelor party, or earlier at the reception, or just a general random statement because Worf has decided to embrace randomness; and c) He totally had it at the bachelor party.

I see my post on this Nemesis thread is still happenin', so I'm gonna ask another question about the film here instead of posting yet another thread on the movie.

Do you all think Janeway earned a cameo on Nemesis? Sure, she was lost in space for 7 years, but did it really pave a way for her to be in the movie? I'm sure it's been asked before but I'm watching the movie again out of boredom and the question came about during the scene :)

For me, it felt badly out of place that Picard would suddenly have a multi-line conversation with some admiral, any admiral, and indicate familiarity and perhaps even friendship. Picard just isn't the type, and the story doesn't call for anything more than a token extra in that scene.

That aside, Janeway is an adequate character for this bit (and Mulgrew is good enough to make the bit part sufficiently emotional or whatever - in fact way too good to be wasted for stuff like this, alas). But there would have been many guests that would have gotten a warmer fan reception, I'm sure. The guest admiral really should have been Nechayev, a well-established foil for Picard, or tjhen Haden, the man who always supervised Picard's dealings with the Romulans in TNG.

He certainly seems to have warmed to them by the end of the movie when he mentions how they fought with honour to Riker.

...And how that bit of sudden character development would have been improved if the early scenes showed Worf adamantly turning down Romulan ale and sprouting his usual anti-Rommie propaganda!

Surely we all know that Romulan Ale has been legal since DS9 Season 7?

I was going to bring this point up, but it looks like you beat me to it.

But it is possible that after the war ended the trade embargo was reinstated.

Though there is something else that i would like to bring up, how strong is Romulan Ale? It has to be pretty strong for it to knock a Klingon on there butt. If Worf could polish off a few bottles of Klingon blood wine and only start to get drunk (DS9 episode-Image in the Sand for one example), then it must be strong stuff. And I'm sure Worf didn't really have more then anyone else.

In the script for TWOK it describes Kirk and McCoy as becoming instantly drunk after one sip.

Also, I remember reading that the original script included references to Riker's BP and that was where Worf drank the Romulan Ale in heavy amounts. The novel includes the references to it.

Didn't he ever have conversations with other admirals? I think it was Janeway's fault that she made the conversation a bit "long", I agree with you that Picard isn't the type for this. It seems as though he tried to make the conversation as short as possible with his answers :)

It's not so much that the conversation was long, it's the cutesy crappy banter between Picard and Janeway. It just didn't seem in-character for either of them.

Cutesy banter? Out of Picard?

Now THAT is out of character -- heck, I doubt the guy could crack a joke in bed when getting all hot and bothered with (any) companion, he's so Stick-In-The-Mud.

Yet another reason to NOT watch this movie. *egads*

It's this part that really sticks out for me:

Janeway: The Son'a, the Borg, the Romulans— you seem to get all the easy assignments.
Picard: Just lucky, Admiral.
Wow, yeah, let's plug all the previous movies! (the shooting script had Janeway also mention "the evil Soran and that pesky Nexus")

I loved the way Picard said, "Just lucky, Admiral."

It was practically dripping with disdain.

He might as well have said, "STFU you useless bint. Only reason why we're talking is because Starfleet couldn't put you behind bars, where you long, for the bad press. So tell me your piece and then piss off."

But, I guess the Janeway cameo was better than the So9 Former Borg Anonymous meeting.

Surely he's jesting here, isn't he?

Yes? Please??

Cheers,

I wish I was. But, IIRC, they were going to have So9 and Picard meet as some-kindo-of former Borg kinship and Picard was talk with her to work out a problem... Or something. I really don't remember it clearly it's been so long.

I didn't mind the Janeway cameo. If it wasn't her, it would have been some nameless admiral giving Picard the order. So, why not give it to Janeway? Her line might have been silly, but, honestly, I would have taken her over some stick-up-their-butt admiral like we've gotten hundreds of times before.
