Neglected Ship Farragut

Now that I think about it, it does look like it's some sort of freighter for the Saucer section, that would have been pretty cool

i always thought that the whole reason why voyager looked like a run of the mill, nothing special ship was because that was supossed to be the whole story. it was just a regular ship not designed for long term missions stuck so far away from the nearest relief.

if it had been a galaxy, from what we know of that class, im sure we wouldnt have thought the situation so dire.

yeh. it was a normal ship.. not one of the entrprises it was a normal crew going out and doing a good days work... then dister strucks and they arre in a situation like somethings akin to what Kirk or Archers would face.. and it made the show better for it..

that is why voyager is the fan favourite. :::)

Slappy you think just like me.I am so happy to find a kindred spirit. You know how I think. You too thought it looked awesome. After so many derogatory comments,I was despairing of finding a like minded individual, who could see what I saw,and who could apprciate the beauty that I saw,in my mind when that, image presented ,it itself to my,hungry eyes, lifting me,and my spirits as only,a sensitive individual would,be lifted by such, grace and, form.

I feel sorry for the many, who,by limit of their,of mind and vision could not, would not lift their heads to a greater form,an image,an awesomeness,to lift them from the drudgery of mundane existence, forever bound by a self imposed limitation.

The Nebula-class is basically a kitbash of the Galaxy-class.
In Trek terms it could be the other way round, IIRC the registry's for Nebulae are lower.

In terms of design it's the Miranda to the Galaxy's Constitution.

I've always imagined the Apollo class as the Ambassadors Kitbash.

The nice thing about that shot is you have the model built for Star Trek II and one built for Star Trek III in Star Trek VII

Yeah, I've always wondered why in TNGs time period, they still have the ancient (to them, anyway) Miranda class starships in service. The predecessor to the Miranda class, the Soyuz class (at least, I assume its a predecessor), was mentioned as having been decommissioned long ago in TNG: 'Cause and Effect'.

The Nebula class was the 24th century Miranda, basically.

It's also interesting to see how long the Excelsior and Oberth classes have been in action, in Starfleet. I suppose that the USAF has been using the F18 and the F16 for a long time now. If a design works, why change it.

I think it's good how in FC, they created some new CGI ship classes for the opening battle sequence.

In Next Gen, just about every Federation ship the ENT-D came across was a Miranda, an Oberth, a Constellation, an Excelsior, or a Nebula. I always imagined that the Fed Starfleet had a huge amount of ship designs, and it was nice to finally see some fresh ones in First Contact.

For Nebula-class/Farragut fans:

The Nebula-class ships are featured heavily in several episodes, as well as making background appearances in many others. TNG 'The Wounded' is the first time we see one. The USS Phoenix looks a little different, though, with that triangular-shaped pod on the top replaced with a rounded, AWACS-like sensor dome. You also see on board her briefly (part of the bridge, and the captain's ready room). Here, the Nebula-class was intended to be much smaller than in her later appearances (only about a third the size of the Enterprise-D). All future ships seen, though, are accurately scaled (the Nebula-class saucer being the same size as the Enterprise-D saucer).

In TNG 'Redemption Parts I/II', Data actually assumes command of one, the USS Sutherland. It features heavily in many scenes, and you see the bridge in great detail (sadly, it's pretty tiny). In DS9 'Second Sight', the USS Prometheus is featured, with Sisko and co going along on a scientific research mission. There is a bit of a discrepancy, though, between script and screen: the script called for a much smaller ship, but they re-used the Nebula model. As a result, the ship's captain is only a low-ranking Lieutenant Commander. We see the bridge again, and although based on the one from TNG 'Redemption', it has been greatly expanded, and looks more realistic for the size of the ship (I always imagined the the one in 'Redemption' was just a temporary bridge, as the Sutherland was still under construction when Data took command). You also see a dining room and a large VIP quarters. Unlike the luxury liner-like Galaxy-class, the Nebula-class has very submarine-looking interiors from now on, with rounded bulkhead doors (the type you have to step over to pass through, much like on the NX-01).

In DS9 'Waltz', we see the USS Honshu, being used to transport the captured Gul Dukat to a prison. Sisko is along for the ride when the Dominion attack the ship, destroying it (many make it to escape pods, though). Here we see the brig, which looks largely like the interiors seen in 'Second Sight'.

That's it. Other significant appearances include:

- DS9 'Emissary' = the USS Bellerophon, part of the fleet at Wolf 359. Destroyed.
- DS9 'Take Me Out To The Holosuite' = USS T'Kumbra, with an all-Vulcan crew.
- DS9 'Explorers' = USS Lexington, a famous Starfleet ship that everyone wants to serve on. Supposed to be a Galaxy-class, according to the script. Appears again later (see below).
- Multiple DS9 episodes = USS Leeds makes regular stops.
- VOY 'Non Sequitur' = An unnamed Nebula-class chases Harry Kim and the stolen USS Yellowstone advanced runabout in an alternate timeline. Fired on the runabout, destroying it.
- VOY 'Message in a Bottle' = USS Bonchune chases the stolen USS Prometheus (different Prometheus to DS9 'Second Sight', not Nebula-class), and has its ass handed to it.
- VOY 'Endgame' = Several unnamed Nebula-class as part of the Earth defence fleet.
- 'Generations' = USS Farragut, rescues Enterprise-D crew. For some reason, appears to have been upscaled, as it is huge compared to the other two ships it is with.
- 'First Contact' = USS Lexington makes a second appearance as part of the fleet at the Battle of Sector 001.

Yeah. Are you sure you're not looking at some Monet while on acid? It's a model.

Of course further to that you also have an Excelsior Class and Bird Of Prey in the movie as well, So all the hero craft model from the movies to that point - save the Enterprise 1701/A itself - were used in the making of that film.

this was because they only had the Excelsior, Miranda and Oberth models from the movies to use at first, and it was cheaper to recycle shots for later episodes than make a new model and attendant footage. the Constellation was a special case for 'The Battle', and footage was reused for the Hathaway in Peak Performance. likewise the Enterprise-C and the the Phoenix.

Um...I'm sure whoever designed the ship would be pleased you like it....It is one of my favorite designs as well....glad you enjoy it...or....something.

The USS Farragut NCC-60591 was destroyed by a Klingon force near the Lembatta cluster.Watch the DS9 episode Nor the Battle to the strong.

Of course, there's also http://www.starshipfarragut.com/.

It's also worth noting that the Galaxy Mk 4 designed by the Hidden Frontier folks for the upcoming Operation Beta Sheild, intended as a refit of the Galaxy Mk 3, is partially based on the Nebula design:

That is just the Enterprise with a different name. The second link does not work or the images have been removed. You just see the foru writing's without the images.

Probably ImageShack taking a dump again. Maybe they'll be back later.
