Need the help of an Irishman

Duncan MacLeod

I'm trying to find out the names of the rocks off Erris Head in County Mayo. I'm re-writing my novel and want to start off with a sea fight at that location. Unfortunately, I can't find any maps or charts that can give me the information I need.

I really want to be accurate here, but I've gotten so frustrated I'm just about ready to make something up at this point.

Sorry mate,I've been looking at the website for ordnance survey Ireland(osi)and it's not as helpful as it might be.Or maybe I'm not using it right.
Typing in Erris head doesn't do much for me either but there is a small map on the discoverireland.ie site.
Sorry that I couldn't help you more, but maybe try these sites yourself.Or perhaps the Mayo county council or Mayo county library websites might help.

I'm not an Irishman, but from the Mayo county library 1838 map:

The names still appear to be used, on this walking description at least.

The little rocks north of Erris Head don't have a name on this map (and may not even have one). If they do I suspect they would be on nautical charts.

I asked mr trampledamage (originally from Co. Cavan) and he didn't know names for the rocks either, he thinks Erris Head is the name for all of the rocks as well as the main big one.
