Hi all! I have a question that I hope one of you can answer. I belong to a ufology based forum called Openmindsforum.com. I am a co/Administrator of the site. We investigate Ufo sightings and share ideas and theories. We currently have over 2200 members from many different countries around the world.
Our research team has been investigating the "California Drone" saga. Here is a brief description of the saga.

http://www.paranormalfiles.co.uk/Chad_raj1977_drone.htm

There has been no conclusive evidence to claim this Drone saga as either real or fake. Our research team hired some Private Investigators to help locate the submitter of the photos. The story made the front page of the LA Times.

LA Times

Since that story broke, our team has received many emails from people. One was extra interesting. A man named Jim claimed to have seen one of these Drone craft in a behind the scenes DVD of the Star Trek Christie's Auction held in Oct of 2006. Here is an excerpt from that email.

"OK then, here is how I know it's all a hoax:
On Oct. 7, 2006 there was a Star Trek auction held by Christie's auction house.
Many Star Trek props, ship models, and scenery were put up for auction.
There was additional (hard to find) behind the scene footage of the selection process for deciding which ship models would be listed in the auction. One ship model not selected for the auction list:
A never used "futuristic Klingon timeship" or what is now being called "Chad's drone."
Since then, Chad's drone and other similar evolving "drones" have been fraudulently perpetrated all over the Internet.
I watched a Star Trek documentary on TV Feb. 2007 as an auction worker in the Paramount warehouse held that very physical ship model in his hands and gave the viewers background info on that particular ship model and said it was one of the physical ship models
(not computer generated) made for an episode for the next, last season of the last Star Trek series "Enterprise."

Here is a link to the thread at our forum that discusses this email.
My question to your forum is this. Do any of you have or know someone that has the catalog from the Christie's Auction? There were two versions:
  • A set which includes only the two volumes in paperback, sold for US$90 before the auction and US$60 after.
  • A "Special Limited Edition Boxed Set" in which the volumes are hardcover and inside a slipcase. This edition also includes a ten-minute DVD with behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with Michael and Denise Okuda, Robert Blackman, Michael Westmore, and Rod Roddenberry. It is sold for US$500.
The Limited Edition version contains the behind the scenes footage that is in question. If any of you do have access to this footage, could you examine the Drone photos in the link I provided above and look for a similar design in the DVD footage? If it does include a 'drone' type shot, could someone do a screen capture. Any and all help is appreciated.

Best Wishes,

Hmmmmmm....no replies. All I'm asking is if anyone has the 10 minute bonus footage that came with the Limited Edition version of the Christie's Auction catalogue.

There were two editions of the catalogue available:
  • A set which includes only the two volumes in paperback, sold for US$90 before the auction and US$60 after.
  • A "Special Limited Edition Boxed Set" in which the volumes are hardcover and inside a slipcase. This edition also includes a ten-minute DVD with behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with Michael and Denise Okuda.

Sorry; I wish I could help, but I've never heard about any of this before.

Hmm, given the lack of replies, I'm going to try sending this to the Star Trek General Discussion forum. I suppose it is strictly more a Misc topic, and you were right to post it here, but I think it's Trekkie enough at its core that it will also work in Gen Trek Discussion and you may well get more replies there.

Good Luck.

Thanks all for your replies and help. I have contacted Christie's Auction House and inquired about purchasing the 10 minute behind the scenes footage without buying the entire Limited Edition Catalogue. It is in this footage that one of the 'California Drones" supposedly appears, which would make this case a hoax. Finding and viewing the footage to make a determination seems to be the thing to do at this point but, alas, the footage remains elusive!
