Need help finding a pic...

Before Enterprise premiered, there were quite a few "fake" ships being posted as the genuine Enterprise (I believe this was even before the term "NX-01" was known). There was one fake ship in particular that I'm trying to find. It looked almost like a naval vessel, with the underside of the hull painted red. Does anyone know what I'm talking about or have the pic in their possession? Thanks in advance.

I like this version better than the Akiraprise version. At least it is an attempt at being more original. However, the bottom part should have been altered a bit more to not be so obvious that it is mimicking sea faring vessel, though.

In fact, that is probably why the concept design was thrown out.

That's an interesting looking design but one might argue that it looks even more futuristic than the NX01. With some alterations, it could've been quite promising.

Before I found the pic again, I could have sworn that the ship looked much more like a naval vessel than what this picture shows. Obviously I remembered it that way because of the red underside.

The reason why I was trying to find the pic was because I'm in the process of creating a "revised" take on ENTERPRISE, with a much more logical course of events and a much more military take on the show. One of the issues I always had a problem with was the Earth Starfleet:

1. Where did they get their raw materials to build their spacecraft when 100 years ago there wasn't enough metal on Earth to build more than the Phoenix's cockpit? (And ENT made clear that the Vulcans did not help Humans with ship construction, nor did Earth have any trade agreements with other alien races).

2. Why did there seem to be so few ships in the Earth Starfleet when just the U.S. Navy alone has thousands upon thousands of ships?

3. Why, if all of Earth's nations are truly united, the crews of Earth Starfleet ships consisted of all Americans, with the exceptions of one Vulcan, one Denobulan, and one Brit? (despite her exotic-sounding name, I truly believe Hoshi Sato was just another American). Where were the Chinese? The Russians? The Middle Easterns? The Africans? The Vietnamese? The French? The Spanish? The Germans? The Jews? The (insert culture here)?

My take on the Earth Starfleet is a) they should have been named the United Earth Space Navy instead of "Starfleet," b) the ship designs should have been based on naval vessels, and surviving hulls from these ships should actually have been used in construction (i.e. the clear use of submarine hulls for the DY-class ships, etc.), and c) the names and registry numbers of the ships should have reflected their former lives (i.e. the Enterprise would have been based on the aircraft carrier, with a registry number of CVN-65-A or some such). I wanted the above design to reflect that as a starting point, because I thought it loooked more like an aircraft carrier with nacelles. But, alas, it doesn't.

LILY: It took me six months to scrounge up enough titanium just to build a four-meter cockpit.
Lily's difficulty stems from the aftermath of a major war and the resulting civil collapse. Titanium is the ninth most common substance in the Earths crust, a century after the third world war it would be much more available. It's also available in asteroids. Given that the NX-01 was built in space (or in a Iowa quarry) it might be reasonable to assume that most of the resources use in it's construction were harvested from space.

The US Navy has 283 warships.

3. Why, if all of Earth's nations are truly united, the crews of Earth Starfleet ships consisted of all Americans,
Archer, Tucker and (maybe) Hoshi would seem to be Americans, Reed is a Brit, Travis strictly speaking doesn't have a nationality. It's harder to say about the rest of the crew. Despite there being a United Earth, it would seem that nations persist in some form into the 24th century and maybe further into the future still. Hypothetically the NX-01 Enterprise could have been built primarily by America, with the commanding officer therefore being American.

A argument could be made that in the 22rd century Starfleet is a American organization.

Perhaps, but I doubt that humanity had the infrastructure to actually be able to mine the stuff without external help.

Whoops, my mistake. I accidentally used the figure for U.S. Navy personnel. Still, that seems to be a lot more ships than even Earth Starfleet had, IMHO.

Oh, I understand that, given ENTERPRISE was an American-made show. All I'm saying is that it would have been a refreshing change of pace to have a multinational crew. It would have made a great foreshadowing to the brith of the Federation to know that all the nations of Earth were able to put aside their differences and unite.

umm, the part I bolded in paragraph 1 answers your question in paragraph 2.

you asked:

Why did there seem to be so few ships in the Earth Starfleet
and answered:

there wasn't enough metal on Earth to build more than the Phoenix's cockpit

Not really, because I was wrong in my assumption that there wasn't enough metal on Earth to build more than the Phoenix's cockpit.

LILY: It took me six months to scrounge up enough titanium just to build a four-meter cockpit.

This line doesn't imply that Lily traveled all over the Earth trying to collect metal in a six-month period of time. It's unlikely she even left Montana.
