Need a Nanny Cam

Frontier

Vice Admiral
Admiral
So my sister needs a Nanny Cam, and we know next to nothing about such. But we know what we need in general. So if anyone knows about this stuff... help! :)

  • Small and Covert -- it's going to go on a shelf up on the wall, not to be known it's there
  • Wireless (Battery Operated) -- a wire coming down from said shelf would be pretty obvious!
  • Video and Audio recording
  • 8-12 hour minimum operation per-charge (recharge-able)
Price wise... I saw one on a website that's an alarm clock going for about $200 and that's "reasonable" IMHO. But I'd like to spend as little as possible. That said; I know this stuff isn't cheap. So I'm not under any illusion of a miraculous $50 one that's fitting all of what she needs.

If anyone knows where to buy; has bought from a place before, please share.

Thanks all!

It's posts like this that make me very glad I don't have kids.

What is a nanny cam, and why does one need one? To the uninitiated it sounds like some sort of hidden camera designed to catch footage of the nanny having sex with dodgy boyfriends so you can sell them to a porn site in exchange for money to pay for the childcare. :D

I think if you have a babysitter that you are so unsure of that you think that you need a hidden camera than you shouldn't be leaving your children with them in the first place.

QFT. Whatever is caught on camera that your sister disproves of will already have been done. The act will be complete, all you would have is evidence. Best NOT to put the child in the situation in the first place.

I was looking for a bit more of assistance, a bit less of advice here, folks.

I don't want to go into intricate details, but this isn't a scenario where my nephew is in harm's way. When a 4 year old says no one plays with him all day and all he does is be on the computer while the adult does nothing all day but likewise be on a computer, you've got to take a 4 year old's account with a grain of salt, and at the same time find out what's really going on for yourself.

I won't bother with pointing out the many cases over the years where a caretaker is highly trusted and abuses that trust in any number of fashions, and the key component that makes a difference is the audio-visual proof.

So... could anyone actually help me here?

No, I think I'll give you more unsolicited advice, in the form of questions.

Why is this four year old being allowed to waste their life in front of a computer?

Are you so cheap that you want to find 'a good deal' on something that costs $200?

Are you so distrustful that you have to spy on your babysitter?

Do you think that the media might be responsible for your twisted world view and distrustful nature?

No need to reply, just think about it and wake up, if you can.

Thanks to those of you who've given me some links. I've got one that looks great, has lots of features, and is only about $115 while doing what the $400 ones do.

If anyone has personal experience with stuff like this, lemme know.

Since being in front of the computer all day is exactly the situation Frontier wants to verify is happening and prevent in the future, I think you might have just skimmed his posts in a rush to come in here and be rude for no justifiable reason. Don't post a bunch of obnoxious questions and accusations you have no intention to discuss just to get a rise out of someone or it will result in an infraction.
