NCAA Football 2008 Discussion - It All Starts Here.

How bad does Notre Dame suck? They had to come from behind to beat San Diego State at home. My alma mater beat San Diego State in their home opener and we are Div 1AA or Div II or something like that (whatever Appilachian State is). They look worse than last season.

I-AA (or FCS now). But, yeah, Notre Dame sucks

Notre Dame has sucked for a number years, but have gotten by on their reputation and their luck. Now the true ND has been revealed, and I laugh and I laugh.

Fantastic job by East Carolina! They'd better be ranked this week.

I really only saw one game yesterday and that was BYU against Washington. What the fuck was that call by the refs. Excessive penalty when a guy makes a great play that is one point away from tying the game? Come on.

I really hate it when officials decide good games like that.

^ UCF/USF might have ended much differently without some extremely questionable calls from the refs as well.

It'll be an interesting game on Saturday when Notre Dame plays Michigan. We'll get to see which program has fallen further...

Glad my Redhawks didn't make things TOO tough for you yesterday, CV. We really tried to, though.

Yes, East Carolina should be ranked after knocking off two top 25 opponents.

And I feel bad for Notre Dame. I wish they had a better team.

A little late, but ... I have never been more frustrated watching a game than Rutgers-Fresno State last Monday. The Knights, on different drives all in the first half:
  • Missed a 47-yard field goal
  • Failed to get any points after first-and-goal from the seven
  • Missed a 22-yard field goal
  • Threw an ill-considered flea flicker into a crowded end zone from first-and-ten on the Fresno 39
  • Had a receiver drop a pass when wide open for six
  • Missed out on various other opportunities in Fresno State territory
In a game they should have conservatively led 6-0, realistically 13-0 and ideally 27-0 at the half, it was a scoreless tie at intermission. I've never seen anything like it.

All credit to Fresno State for hanging around, but ... if RU could have gotten out of its own way for ten freakin' minutes, this wouldn't have even been a game.

If they don't beat UNC Thursday night, the season is ruined. :klingon:

Anyone have a thought on the controversial end of the Washington - BYU game?

I thought it was a bad call myself. But hey, the officials called it and the Washington players shouldn't have gone anywhere near that line if they were smart.

Tyrone Willingham (the Washington coach), who was on the hot seat to start the season, is really starting to catch flak. People are saying that the team is so undisciplined that they gave the game away by being stupid and everyone is blaming Willingham for that.

At first, I thought it was a terrible call. Still do. BUT, I don't blame the referees. It's the fault of whoever on the rules committee dreamed this rule up. And gave the referees no recourse whatsoever in trying to make a judgement call.

Any truth to the rumor that Jahvid Best gets his speed from the Wile E. Coyote School for the Physically Impossible?

I mentioned it up thread somewhere. Love to hear what you had to say about the subject. :)
Oops... sorry I missed your post.

but then I already commented here:

Yeah I saw that. :)

I did have something to add though. Another thing I really hated about the call was college players should be out there to have fun. He did nothing to taunt the other team, and lived the moment. He's a college student and to have him act as if he was attending (or any other college student ofr that matter) a funeral is a bit disheartening.

No kidding. The thing which most sets the college game apart from the NFL is the emotional core. It has got to hold onto that, or else it will become even more and more just like NFL-light. Don't get me wrong... I love the NFL, but the college game has in many quarters become a professional minor league of sorts, with all of the money flowing through it.

So NCAA... please don't turn this into another "No Fun League", okay? :(

Know who's the head of the NCAA Rules Committee? Mike Belotti, head coach of the Oregon Ducks.

I sent him an email asking him to consider rescinding (or modifying) the part of the rule about tossing the ball in the air, at least on a scoring play.
