NCAA Football 2008 Discussion - It All Starts Here.

pac-10 officials did their best to mess up the game (for both teams), but I am happy Trojans won. Cal and Jeff Tedford are always a tough opponent. USC defense has been awesome all year, except for the first half against Oregon State.

The Cal game could have easily been a shutout too. The Bears' FG came on a drive where USC had two interceptions called back because of penalties (one legit, the other not so much).

Still, the bottom line is USC's defense, which is completely out of control. They've given up 13 points in the last 5 games. They are playing out of their minds.

Much like my Senior prom date, it wasn't pretty, but it worked out in the end.....

:techman:

Does that mean you didn't score either?

Fuck! The Gamecocks are ranked. That's the kiss of death for us! :scream:

:p

Seriously, though, we rarely do well the week after we're ranked. The only time we did do well (last year), it lasted for 7 weeks as we reached #6 in the AP poll...and then proceeded to lose the next six games in a row. When we fall out of the polls, we do it with a bang.

Getting back to Texas Tech, I really have to say that I had been suspicious of them before these last two games. But man ... their defense played with tremendous fire both games and their offense was its typical self. I'm not sure how long they can keep it up, but if they can.... look out.

Couldn't have said it any better myself. Right now, Graham Harrell is putting together the greatest season I've seen a college quarterback have. If he wins four more for the Red Raiders, he's a legend ... and his team is arguably one of the very best ever to take the field.

I sincerely hope Oklahoma doesn't end their run. The Sooners are a little tiresome in their annual reload-rather-than-rebuild greatness, and I'm enjoying the new kid on the block.

Man, that TTech game turned ugly. Obviously Leach has put together a hell of a team, but O-State isn't as bad a team as they looked the other night. They shouldn't have gotten beat that badly. Unless Tech is a total wussy on the road, they should beat the Sooners. If State's defense can't handle Tech, no way OU's weak secondary is going to handle them. O-State's schedule did them no favors. They had Mizzou, Texas, and Texas Tech on the road while Tech got their two really big games at home. State had to face those nasty Baylor Bears and Iowa State Cyclones at home. Them's the breaks I guess. At least the Sooners have to come to Stillwater. I think OSU will regroup and handle them.
I sincerely hope Oklahoma doesn't end their run.

You hope? You won't have to hear those pain in the ass Sooner fans crow on local radio that they're the greatest team ev-ah for beating Tech when OSU couldn't. If Tech stumbles at Norman of all places I'm putting a curse on Harrell, Crabtree, and the lot of them.

Just look at Harrell's last 3 games - the stats are sick!

145 passes attempted
110 passes completed
%75.8 completion rate
13 TD's
0 picks

Now you can't forget he has Crabtree to throw to, and an OL that has done an unbelievable job of protection, but the man has done the job and done it well. When given the tools he makes good.

And good point Dorian. That Okla St team was a very good team.. one that did not beat themselves.

Harrell's stats have been insane the last couple of games, Neroon. He and and his team sure are peaking at the right time. I can accept that they beat my Cowboys. My Cowboys are pretty good, but obviously Tech's great right now. State's better than what they showed last night. They just ran into a steamroller. I felt bad because people who haven't seen them play Mizzou and Texas probably came away from that game thinking they're a bad team, which they aren't. They'll probably end up 10-2 or 9-3 at the very worst for the year.

Tech had better go on to win the national title. That'll make me feel better about it in retrospect. I swear, if they decide to have a bad day in Norman, I'll puke. :scream:

Well trust me. I've seen the Cowboys play a few times this year, and I know how good they are. That's a large part of why I am so profusely praising Tech right now.

I love to see the Texas Tech offense go against the USC defense, but the odds are very much against this happening.

Oh man that would be a dream match-up! But you're right, as there is no way I can see USC making the title game. The screwy thing... there could be a 3-way tie for the BIG-12 South. Granted, that assumes Oklahoma beats both Tech and Okla St which is a tall, tall order. However, according to Mandel on the SI site, if it happens there is a 3-way tie for that division. Meaning that the first tiebreaker to send a team to the conference championship game is who has the highest ranking in the BCS poll.

Yeah...Kind of like my Gophers. They finally crack the top 25, then proceed to lose the next two games. I had a feeling they'd go on a downhill slide, but at least one of those games should have been a gimmie. I have this terrible feeling we have that dreaded Motor City Bowl coming up on our calander.

What I find tiresome is Lee Corso's chronic hard-on for Oklahoma. Every year he, and to a limited extent Herbstreidt, yammer on about how OU's got the best team in the country, even after they lose a game or two.

News for you, girls ... you're not the best if you lose a couple while other teams are undefeated. I don't care how talented you two think UF and OU are right now, Alabama and Texas Tech ARE better unless and until defeated.

Deal with it.

Herbie wasn't singing that song this year. Pretty much from Day One he's had Florida as the best team in the country. For the last couple of weeks he's had Bama ranked #1, though.
