NCAA Football 2008 Discussion - It All Starts Here.

Actually, between Leach's vapor lock re: the two-point conversion and the Tech fans' exuberance, it's a wonder we're not talking about the Longhorn Lubbock Miracle, or some such.

Maybe I've got good old days syndrome, but wasn't it a better football world when you could actually go out and tear the goalposts down?

Yes.

AFTER the game is over...

Details, details. If you've never done it before, I think you're forgiven if you're a little early.

Hell when I was going to Boston College in 1984 we beat Alabama on the road on national TV. The entire student body stormed our own stadium and tore our own goal posts down!

Good times.

:techman:

That's classic.

When I was at WVU in 1988, we blew Penn State out of Morgantown, running up a 41-8 halftime lead on the way to a 51-30 victory. Penn State's final drive ended with a fourth-down sack, after which the fans stormed the field even though there were still 49 seconds on the clock. I remember being upset at the time because I wanted to see the clock run to zero, and there was quite a big stink about it in both the national and local media. Of course, now with the passage of time I realize that we're no different than any other fans who win a big game. Hey, at Virginia Tech they tear down the goalposts after a win over James Madison.

The Ducks lost to Cal again. :(

Congrats Tomalak, your's was the better team today.

To be fair, that was an ugly game in ugly weather. I ended up going to Tahoe this weekend, but I left about 45 minutes before kickoff and it was just pouring. Probably one of the worst rainstorms that I can remember since moving to Berkeley. It didn't let up until I crossed the stateline.

However, I think special credit has to be given to the Cal defense who played really, really well. Cal was I think -3 on turnovers, but the D was able to really hold the line. I also think that this game highlighted the only strength we have in the QB position: Longshore was able to easily move into the spot when Riley got a concussion and there was no adjustment period for the rest of the team.

If the D can bring the same game next week, we might have a chance at beating USC, though I won't get my hopes up.

Way to go Red Raiders! I'm really proud of them-- a win for the ages!

I'm glad the students rushing the field early didn't cause the team to lose; if they had, that would never have been forgotten. The crowd did a good job keeping their intensity up all game, but I think by the end, some of the students may have been too "stimulated" to remember to read the clock.

I love what Coach Mike Leach said after the game: "With the great fans we have, every once in ahwile you have to kick off from your own 7 yard line." :techman:

If they'd lost that game, they'd have had Leach to blame more than the fans.

I reiterate: When up by five, you go for TWO, Mikey.

I said the same thing at the time. That decision baffled me. NO reason not to go for two.

I am so ready for Saturday. Death Valley, Tailgating, Nick Sa$an (Satan) coming home and my LSU Tigers facing the #1 team in the nation. I will be in Death Valley. I will be cheering my ass off. I will get my drink on!!

I have to admit that with all of the reputation surrounding night home games for LSU, I'd enjoy attending one just to experience it regardless of who LSU was playing. This game has all the earmarks of a trap for Bama, enough so that I keep forgetting the "Return of Saban" angle.

CBS has made this a day game. They are not nearly as fun as night games. Nothing beats tailgating in the shadows of Death Valley.

Trust me, we have not forgotten the "Return of Sa$an" angle.....

One of my favorite games of the year: USC/Cal.

I always look forward to this one.

Hopefully USC can continue its recent performance on defense (3 shutouts in the last 4 games), and bury the Bears!

GO TROJANS!!

:techman:

I don't knwo if you really shoudl want that or not. Seems as if whenever USC shuts out an opponent these days, they drop inthe BCS poll. :wtf:

Honestly, I'm not worried about that. There are too many good teams for USC to be thinking BCS Title game. That loss against OSU sticks out like a sore thumb, and I know it.

All I want is a win today. Not worried about a shutout.

Hopefully, someone can help us out in the Pac Ten, and I can make a trip to the Rose Bowl.

:techman:

It's not out of the realm of possibility that Oregon St can run the rest of their schedule, and win the PAC-10 outright yet finish below USC in the BCS poll. Granted, the Beavers have a tough row to hoe @UCLA, Cal, @Arizona, and home against Oregon.

That's because it causes the PAC-10 to drop even further in the computer polls, weakening the strength of schedule component. At least that's my understanding of what's going on.

Oregon has Stanford at home today. They should win, but who knows? I haven't been able to figure the Ducks out since Dennis Dixon went down and they switched to their new "QB de jour" system of choosing someone to run the offense.

Any time USC plays any of the Bay Area teams, it's the game I look more forward to. It used to be just Cal, but after what happened last year with Stanford, that suddenly gained more traction too. Looking forward to the game. I just hope it's not a blow out because we're missing Oklahoma St. and Texas Tech in favor of this game.

Oh man, Michigan won a football game! I'm so happy!

This year has sucked, but at least Michigan keeps the Little Brown Jug. The Wolverines actually looked good today too. I almost couldn't believe me eyes. I kept waiting for the wheels to fall off, and they never did!

Hey, I want my chance to go a Rose Bowl after the BS from 2004. While it is pretty unlikely that Cal will win, I do want to hope. It has been the stylish thing to do this year. :D
